WHAT IS A PART-EXCHANGE?

When a customer sells their car to a dealer as part of the new car buying process, this is known as a part-exchange.

We are like every other broker in that we provide this service also. You can trade-in your car as part of your new car buying process, and use the money we agree to discount the cost of your new car.

We we also buy your old or used car, regardless of whether you wish to buy a new car from us or not.

If you are part-exchanging with us you will be interested in the cost to change figure i.e. how much will remain to pay after we have agreed a price for your used car.

For example: If someone part-exchanges a Ford Focus that has been valued at £4,000 for a new VW Golf that costs £12,000, then the customer ends up paying £12,000 - £4,000 = £8,000.

This service is offered in order to facilitate our customers buying new cars. Cars which are bought by buyacar are in most cases sold on to the trade at trade prices.

This means that our prices are lower than what a customer can achieve by selling their car themselves privately by advertising their car through local media or online listings such as the buyacar used car listings

We recommend to all our customers that they try to sell their used cars themselves as they are likely to get a better price. However, if you are a new car customer and you get a part-exchange valuation at the time of ordering a new car then we can still consider taking your used car in when you new car arrives if you haven't sold it yourself.

WHAT AFFECTS THE VALUE OF MY CURRENT USED CAR?

Used car prices vary greatly. This is due to a number of factors - the demand for your vehicle, the relative quality of your car in relation to similar cars, the route you are using to sell you car for example. The value can also change dramatically between months - particularly if a new version of your car is launched.

It's likely that if you advertise your car privately through buyacar's used car listings, or other similar listings that you will be able to achieve a better price for your car. Our service is a convenience service - we make little or no money from taking your used car. Often other companies will offer higher prices for your existing car in part-exchange - please make sure you consider the 'cost to change' - if you are still saving a lot more on your new car then this more than makes up for getting £100 less on your part-exchange.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What if I decide not to part exchange after we have agreed it on our order?

If you are part exchanging a vehicle and do not wish to continue with the part exchange as part of the transaction, you must advise us within 48 hours of receiving your invoice at the latest. In this instance we will send you an amended invoice.

Q. I have had a prang in my part-exchange, what shall I do?

If you need to discuss a change in the condition or mileage covered by your part exchange since the order was placed then please contact the buyacar office as soon as possible.

Q. Will you come back to me and re-value my part exchange before I get my new car?

When we value a car we will set an expiry date of the transaction and also a maximum mileage allowance. We will value your car based on all the information you have provided us.

As long as the condition of the car matches the report you have completed and the agreed date and mileage, there will be no problem. If this is not the case then we will have to discuss the allowance with you. Please bear in mind that we are committing to purchase a car from you

Q. I have finance outstanding on my part exchange. I informed you of this when I agreed a PX price with you. What's next?

If Buyacar has agreed to settle any outstanding finance associated with your part exchange you will need to request a settlement letter from the funder to be faxed to Buyacar directly to the buyacar fax number once you have received your invoice.
