What is it?

Hydrogen is the simplest and most abundant element in the whole universe and so it makes sense that we're looking so closely at using it to power our green cars. It has the potential of having zero emissions and therefore decreasing the size of our carbon footprint.

How does it work?

There are two ways that the chemical energy of hydrogen is converted to mechanical energy which can then be used in a green car. Internal combustion engines, where the energy source in this case hydrogen is combusted and then used to power the green car. These hydrogen engines burn fuel the same way a conventional gasoline engine does. Another way to convert the hydrogen energy into usable power is via a fuel cell. The fuel cell process converts the hydrogen energy by adding oxygen as a reactor to produce water and electricity.

What are the benefits of using hydrogen?

Hydrogen can be produced from natural gas, LPG, biomass and other sources. One of the most beneficial to the environment would be to use hydrogen derived from any form of renewable energy which would reduce carbon emissions and lower the damage caused to the environment. If using biomass, it would create zero emissions, so it produces as much energy as it takes to create the alternative fuel for your green car. This is the perfect equation for you and your environment.
