LOTUS ETERNE 4-DOOR SEDAN SCHEDULED FOR 2015 DEBUT

Lotus is known all over the world for its sleek performance cars, but lately they have come out with some surprising concept cars at recent auto shows. While they are positive changes, they do defy the very principles under which the Lotus name was established; this has already caused uproar among Lotus purists. First, there were the Lotus Elite and Evora concept cars featuring hybrid technology. Lotus has again surprised its fans with its four-door sedan, the Eterne that was unveiled at a recent Paris auto show.

From a distance, the seamlessness between the front and back seat side windows make the concept Eterne look like a coupe. The Lotus Eterne will feature the same powertrain as the Lotus Elite: a 5.0 liter V-8. It will also be available with a hybrid option, most likely with KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). This technology is seen in many other cars used in Formula 1 racing. Basically, it converts the energy lost during braking to give brief boosts in acceleration.

The four-door sedan is hoping to be the answer to the common complaints that getting in and out of Lotus vehicles can be a challenge. Since the interior has yet to be designed, though, it is too soon to tell whether the Eterne will live up to people's hopes of being more accessible.

Overall, the Lotus Eterne should resemble the Elite as far as mechanical aspects are concerned. Although Lotus has lately gone against a few of its traditions, including sleek racing cars and prime performance, these vehicles are aimed at reconciling power, performance, comfort, and environmental consciousness. Time will tell, however, whether the four-door design will catch on with those who are loyal to the Lotus name. The Eterne is set to debut in spring 2015 with a price tag of £120,000.
