High demand for City Cars from 5K

TODAY'S BEST CITY CARS ON OFFER

City cars are today's most popular motoring buy. And no wonder considering how practical and economical these cars have become.

The recent government Scrappage scheme has ensured that demand for these vehicles has remained very high with net prices for some examples being around £5,000.

Even in this sector of the market the choice is extensive with some models aimed clearly at price and practicality, whereas others are more up-market, focusing on comfort and some degree of sophistication. So let see what is on offer.

TODAY'S BEST CITY CARS ON OFFER

At the value end of the market cars like the Kia Picanto, Proton Savvy and Suzuki Alto have much to offer in the way of practicality for a budget price. The same can also be said for the ever-popular Chevrolet Matiz that has now been around for a while and is soon to be replaced. The Matiz in its Daewoo days was one of the fore runners of this sector of the market yet still has a lot to recommend it even now.

It is in the mid price range of this sector that the choice is most extensive. Citroen, Peugeot and Toyota market the C1, 107 and Aygo respectively with all three cars being essentially the same. Choosing between them comes down purely to personal preference or manufacturer loyalty. Whichever make you go for however, it is unlikely you'll be disappointed.

All the other main manufacturers have a model in this sector with Renault offering the sexy Twingo, Ford the impressive Ka, Nissan the Pixo and Vauxhall the latest Agila. The model that has been making all the headlines recently as a result of the government's Scrappage scheme however, is Hyundai's i10. This little car has taken the market by storm to such an extent that the manufacturer was having difficulty in meeting the huge demand that was created by the scheme.

The citycar sector has become so well established now that it has developed its own premium prestige sub-sector. This category features cars like Toyota's IQ, the smart ForTwo, Volkswagen's Fox and the car that everybody wants to be seen in these days - the new Fiat 500. These cars are more than just city runabouts. Their style and panache make a definite statement about their owners too and provide all the comfort and trappings that are usually associated with much larger vehicles.
