Just how far can you go in the latest electric cars and will they deliver on performance, battery life, owner costs to tempt the UK motorist into buying?
PUNDITS claims Rafael Benitez's Liverpool are running on empty after their shock exit to Reading on the FA Cup Third round. Cheer up lads. Here's 6 of the best for fuel efficiency - electric cars on the market in 2010.
TESLA ROADSTER
Running at a top speed of 125mph and with a range of almost 250 miles, the Roadster is far and away the most powerful electric car on the market. It will set you back 87,000 but charging your electric Roadster will set you back approximately 1 and driving an electric car exempts you from road tax, so you'll make enormous savings in the long run.
MITSUBISHI MiEV
The MiEV arrived in the UK in November 2009 for a pilot scheme in the Midlands, but more batches are en route and should be in display rooms by the end of 2010, with price estimates beginning at £20,000. With four seats and a maximum speed of 81mph, running costs are just 6% of a comparable petrol car. You'll get 100 miles before your battery goes kaput.
CITROEN C-ZERO
Due for release in the final quarter of 2010, the C Zero is capable of 0 to 60mph in 15 seconds. You'll get roughly 80 miles before you run out of juice and a recharge will take six hours unless you have access to a quick charge point. Prices TBA.
NISSAN 2010 LEAF
Nissan boasts that the Leak is the first electric car designed for affordability and real-world requirements. You'll get more than 100miles out of a full charge. Charging from home is expected to take 8 hours but quick charge points will boost the battery from 0 to 80% within 30 minutes. Slated for release in late 2010, the Leaf is expected to cost £25 to 30,000.
E CITY PRO
If it's just a little run-around you're looking for, the E City Pro from the Nice Car Company should satisfy your needs. With a maximum speed of r40mph and a range of 65 miles, the car isn't suited to long journeys but with 800 litres of boot space this two-seater is ideal for shopping trips. Just £10,500.
MEGA CITY 2+2
Similar to the E City Pro, this four-seater from the Nice Car Company is perfect for short family trips. Costing £13,295, the Mega City 2+2 has a maximum speed of 40mph and a range of 65 miles, and will take 5 to 8hours to charge.
