HISTORY OF THE MAZDA CAR

Mazda are having an enormous amount of success and sales continue to rise rapidly which can hardly be seen as surprising as Mazda produces a range of stylish vehicles that are not only superb to drive but built to the highest possible quality standards.

Mazda's range offers style, pace, versatility and excitement and it's worth remembering that brand's enviable reputation for reliability and strong build quality.

Mazda, or Toyo Kogyo, as the manufacturer was originally known, started life as a tool making company in 1920. By 1931, the Japanese firm was producing a three-wheeled truck which sold consistently for several decades. It wasn't until 1960 that Mazda began manufacturing cars with the R360 Coupe, a fine first venture into making automobiles.

Mazda, as Toyo Kogyo in Japan, started developing rotary engines improving the technology originally licensed to NSU in Germany by a Dr. Wankel. They worked hard to enhance and develop the rotary engine and eventually the powerplants became reliable enough for mass production. Mazda's first saloon was launched in 1962 and just five years later the Cosmo coupe, their first rotary engined model, reached small scale production.

Mazda has come a long way from those first three-wheeled light trucks first introduced in 1931, and today's thoroughly modern model range continues to bring more and more motorists to the brand.
