HISTORY OF SUBARU CARS

Subaru, a division of Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries Co, is renowned for producing the Impreza but there is a great deal more to the manufacturer's portfolio. The company began producing cars in 1954 and has become famous for its 'Boxer' engines and four-wheel drive technology.

Fuji Heavy Industries is currently in a partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation which owns 16.5% of FHI, having purchased the General Motors shareholding in 2005. The company is named after Pleiades and the manufacturer's logo is influenced by the star cluster, with the large star representing Fuji Heavy Industries, and the five smaller stars symbolising the current five companies united under the FHI group. The name "Subaru" approximately translates into English as "to govern", "unite," or "gather together."

Today's range included the recently introduced diesel versions of the new Legacy Tourer and Outback and just as you would expect from a company with an outstanding engineering pedigree, the new diesel engines are top notch offering unrivalled performance, refinement, economy and low CO2 exhaust emissions.

The Impreza 2.5-litre WRX STi offers storming performance and leach-like handling and then there's the impressive all-new Subaru Forester 4x4, also available as a diesel, and larger, even more luxurious Tribeca SUV to consider along with the magnificent Legacy saloon.

At entry level Subaru builds the new Justy supermini five-door hatchback which offers extraordinary fuel economy, with its 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine produces a combined fuel consumption figure of 56.5 miles per gallon and road tax friendly, ultra-low CO2 emissions of only 118g/km. This means that you'll only pay £35 a year for your Justy's road tax!
