HISTORY OF CITROEN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Citroen is a major French automobile manufacturer and part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen group. Founded in 1919 by Andre Citroen it became the first mass-production car company outside of the USA.

Citroen pioneered the modern concept of creating a sales and services network that complemented the motor car. Within eight years Citroen had become Europe's largest vehicle manufacturer and the 4th largest in the world.

By producing Europe's first all-steel-bodied car, Europe's first monocoque chassis, and stunning the world in 1934 with the Traction Avant - the world's first mass produced front wheel drive car. With the revolutionary Citroen DS the company earned a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering, reflected in the company's slogan - 'Creative Technologie'. The brand celebrated its 90th Anniversary in 2009.

The first commercial vehicles produced by the company were designated the Citroen TUB and TUC which were light vans derived from the Traction Avant and produced between 1939 and 1941. The TUB was the first commercial vehicle ever equipped with a lateral sliding door. The name TUB is an acronym from Traction Utilitaire de type B or type C.

Today Citroen produces a range of vans to meet all manner of requirements in the commercial world. The compact Nemo is the smallest van in their range and is complemented by the slightly larger Berlingo. Their panel vans feature the smaller Dispatch and the larger Relay. The Citroen commercial range is completed by the C-Crosser Enterprise van which is a conversion from their successful C-Crosser 4x4 SUV.
