In 2007 Mitsubishi Fuso celebrated its 75th anniversary of the Fuso brand name. MFTBC has continued to be an integral part of the Daimler Trucks Division of Daimler AG.
Mitsubishi motor manufacturing was first establish in 1932 by the Mitsubishi Ship Building Company when it started manufacturing the B46 bus built which they called "Fuso". The name 'Fuso' translates to hibiscus, an ancient name for Japan used by the Chinese.
By 1949 the company name became the Fuso Motors Sales Co., Ltd which was later renamed to Mitsubishi Fuso Motors Sales Co., Ltd in 1952. By 2003 the company was established as Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC). By now DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and other Mitsubishi group companies had acquired equity stakes of 43%, 42% and 15% respectively in the company.
