HISTORY OF NISSAN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Nissan intends to continue to grow its light commercial vehicle business in Europe over the coming years. To do this Nissan will add cab-over-engine and light-duty trucks to its range of commercial vehicles. From being regarded as largely a car manufacturer, Nissan has developed its commercial manufacturing arm through collaborative arrangements to start to become a significant player in this sector of the market.

Its current range in the UK may not be class leading but Nissan can offer some significant models in most categories. For example, it has two impressive pickup models in the Navara and NP300. In the compact van category, Nissan boasts its latest model in the acclaimed NV200 van and in the panel van stakes the Interstar and Primastar can both hold their own against some significant competition. The Cabstar truck completes the range as a versatile platform for moving heavy loads in a confined space.

From producing its first commercial vehicle in 1935, Nissan has expanded its manufacturing capability across the world and now includes regions like Japan, Europe, China, Mexico, South Africa, Asia, USA and the Middle East. Due to this phenomenal worldwide success it is now proposing to open a second new commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in Mississippi, North America.

In 1999 Nissan formed a global alliance with Renault, which as a direct result has seen the company move into the ranks of the world's top automotive groups.
