HISTORY OF PEUGEOT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Today's Peugeot range includes the Partner and Partner Origin (based on the previous generation model) compact vans, the Bipper, Expert and Boxer panel vans and the Expert and Boxer Window vans.

In the late 1980's, Peugeot and its Citroen subsidiary joined forces with Italian manufacturer Fiat to design and build an extensive range of vans sharing common parts and architecture. The well-known Peugeot Boxer van was first introduced in 1994 while in July 1996 Peugeot launched its Peugeot Partner, sold as the Berlingo by Citroen Berlingo and the Scudo by Fiat. All three are built in a jointly owned factory in Vigo, Spain.

Back in 1895 Peugeot introduced its first commercial vehicle, the Type 13, a delivery van produced for only two years. In 1902 a Peugeot truck was awarded a prestigious national prize.

The First World War interrupted production with the Lille factory being occupied while other Peugeot plants were able to participate in the war effort. Around 1000 motorcycles, 63,000 bicycles, 3,000 cars, 6,000 trucks, 1,400 tank engines, 10,000 airplane engines and 6 million bombs and shells were produced.

In 1928 the first Peugeot to be fitted with a diesel engine appeared and by 1936 Peugeot had introduced its first diesel taxis and commercial vehicles. During WWII the Sochaux factories were occupied by the Germans from 1940 and under the direction of Ferdinand Porsche 500 vans are produced.

In 1959 Peugeot launches its first standardised production diesel car, the 403 a month with an Indenor engine. Peugeot was later to become one of the world's biggest producers of diesel engines.
