Used Audi A1 deals

Audi A1 deals start at less than £150

The Audi A1 is eight years old, but still looks fresh. It shot into the hearts of the fashion conscious when it first went on sale and remains there today.

It might not be a regular best-seller like the Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa, but it still struck a chord with buyers. In fact, in 2013 it was the UK’s 20th best selling car.

This means that there’s hundreds on the second hand market, ranging from a frugal (50mpg) 1.6TDI to an altogether more furious S1 sporting 228bhp.

There’s a new Audi A1 on the horizon too - which will send older models into a price spiral. Great news for the savvy second-hand buyer.

Used Audi A1 (2010-present) deals

Distinct angular looks and a class-leading interior drove flocks of buyers into Audi showrooms. Its critics will tell you that the A1 is just a dressed up Volkswagen Polo, because they are nearly mechanically identical underneath the bodywork.

But the extra money can be felt and seen in the interior. Leather seats, good levels of equipment, and a quality in the buttons and stalks are palpably better than the Polo.

There’s also much more choice when it comes to picking the Audi. There are currently four petrol engines to choose from, as well as a diesel - and even more choice amongst used caars. Over the course of its production you could have the A1 with a 5 or 6-speed manual gearbox, as well as a 7-speed automatic. And then there are the various specifications.

SE is the most basic version and current prices start from £154 per month on finance through BuyaCar.. Despite being the cheapest, it it still gets alloy wheels, air conditioning, and iPod connectivity.

Sport trim gets bigger wheels, fog lights, bluetooth, and sports suspension. Despite their higher price when new, these cars were more popular and so there's greater choice in the used car market. At the moment, BuyaCar's Audi A1 Sport prices start at £140 per month on finance.

S Line adds a body kit and bigger wheels. There are also Black and Contrast editions with different roofline colours and even bigger wheels. Finance costs for these cars start from £140 per month.

Best used Audi A1 deal for fuel economy

Audi A1 1.6 TDI

Latest Audi A1 1.6 TDI deals from £9,749
Finance from £146 per month

The most economical A1 is the 1.6 TDI with a manual gearbox. Real world economy testing shows that it can achieve 54.6mpg in mixed driving environments. The 114hp engine is great to use too, and never feels as slow as some economy-minded cars. Expect to lose around 2.2 mpg for having the automatic instead of the manual.

Audi A1 Sport 1.0 TFSI

Latest Audi A1 Sport 1.0 TFSI deals from £10,490
Finance from £161 per month

You might scoff at the idea of a premium German brand offering much in terms of value, but the A1 makes an especially savvy used buy. The 1.0 TFSI engine models are a happy medium between the more economical but less refined diesel engines, and the more expensive and more powerful larger petrol powered cars.

Sport is the mid-range trim level in between SE and S-Line and offers a good amount of kit without getting too expensive, even for fairly recent models. Cars registered in 2016 with less than 15,000 miles cost from £146 per month with finance at BuyaCar

Best used Audi A1 deal for young drivers

Audi A1 Sport 1.2 TFSI

Latest Audi A1 Sport 1.2 TFSI deals from £9,191
Finance from £147 per month

Premium German cars and young drivers aren’t exactly a marriage made in heaven. However, the A1 is the smallest car that Audi makes, and the 1.2 TFSI has the lowest insurance group rating of the A1s.

All of the regular trims (S, SE, and S-Line) are in insurance group 9, so any one of them would be good for younger drivers.

Best used Audi A1 deal for families

Audi A1 Sportback SE 1.0 TFSI

Latest Audi A1 Sportback SE 1.0 TFSI deals from £12,500
Finance from £182 per month

Don’t get confused by the Sportback name. It just means that this is the five door version of the A1. The A1 isn’t a huge car, but the additional doors make a big difference when it comes to loading kids in and out.

We’d also recommend getting a car without the sport suspension, as is noticeably more unsettled over rough roads - the price that you pay for a sportier, more agile sensation in corners. The standard suspension came with SE models and was also an option on Sport versions: the original owner could choose to replace the sport suspension for no extra cost. However, it's not always clear whic type is fitted to used cars.

Audi S1

Latest Audi S1 deals from £9,191
Finance from £140 per month

The Audi S1 makes a very upmarket hot hatch. All-wheel drive ensures that the engine's 228 horsepower can be put onto the road safely, without wheelspin, and it’ll storm to 155mph.

It’s grown up when you want it to be, and not so grown-up when you don’t want it to be.

Best used Audi A1 deal for gadgets

Audi A1 Black Edition

Latest Audi A1 Black Edition deals from £9,191
Finance from £140 per month

The Audi A1's age means that even high-specification cars don't include the latest technology, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or driver assistance systems like lane-keeping assist, which nudges the car back into line if you drift out of your lane.

However, Black Edition cars are stacked fairly high with equiment, including 18in alloy wheels, luxurious alcantara and leather front seats; light and rain sensors; and climate control. These were also more likely to have been fitted with optional extras when new: equipment such as parking sensors, a Bose stereo, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror were less expensive additiona than on lower-specification models.
