Which used Audi TT should you buy?
The Audi TT is one of the coolest and most desirable coupes you can buy. It’s a rival to cars such as the BMW 2 Series Coupe, wonderfully engaging Porsche 718 Cayman or even Japan’s popular Mazda MX-5 RF.
Head-turning good looks, a superb interior and a high level of equipment, even on the entry-level model, give the Audi TT the edge for many.
But which model to go for? There was a 2.0-litre diesel engine which was discontinued in 2018, and there’s a choice of 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines, some with four-wheel drive, if you’re looking at more recent models.
A sportier Audi TTS version uses an uprated version of the 2.0-litre petrol engine, while the Audi TT RS model draws its power from a 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit to give it performance to rival a supercar, along with a very distinctive warbling engine note.
Whatever your preference, the Audi TT has undeniable kerb appeal.
What used Audi TT trim levels are available?
If the Audi TT sounds like the coupe for you, read on for our guide to the Sport, Sport Edition, S line, Black Edition, 20 Years Edition and Vorsprung versions.
Audi TT Sport
The Audi TT Sport is typically the most affordable model, although the level of spec is anything but basic. It boasts the same high level of finish and catwalk style as more expensive versions, so there’s a real sense that you’re getting more for your money. Be aware that the specifications covered here are based on the latest Audi TT, and older models may differ slightly.

Audi TT S line
The mid-range Audi TT S line trim level is the most popular in the UK, ensuring there plenty of choice, and it arguably offers the best blend of equipment, sporty styling and value for money. The Audi TT S line feels sportier to drive than lesser models, but this comes at the expense of ride quality, because of the bigger wheels. Selecting a different driving mode can improve comfort, though. Highlights of the Audi TT S line are:
- LED headlights
- Rear LED lights and scrolling dynamic indicators
- 19-inch partly polished alloy wheels
- Lowered suspension
- S line sports seats
Audi TT Black Edition
The Audi TT Black Edition is essentially a cosmetic upgrade over the Audi TT S line model, with the key additions listed below. Aside from these, the Black Edition comes with everything you’ll find on the Audi TT S line.

Audi TT 20 Years Edition

Audi TT Vorsprung
The Audi TT Vorsprung is the most lavish version of the standard car you can buy, with the most desirable equipment and accessories. Among these are standard Matrix LED headlights, which dim individually according to the situation. You don’t even have to concern yourself with dipping the headlights for oncoming traffic, as these automatically shuffle the beam around, so you get the best view of the road ahead without dazzling other drivers.

Audi TTS
The Audi TTS is a standalone model, which is also available with the Black Edition and Vorsprung trim levels. The 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine is tuned to deliver enhanced performance, while Audi’s Magnetic Ride system continuously adapts the suspension to suit the driving conditions, meaning less roll when cornering and greater stability under heavy braking. - Sports suspension
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- RS styling upgrades
- TT RS steering wheel
- Black styling pack
- Privacy glass
- High beam assist
Is a used Audi TT a good buy?
Launched in 2014, and updated in 2019, the Audi TT is a hugely appealing, well resolved coupe.
It might be dripping in style, but this doesn’t come at the expense of practicality, with a pair of seats in the back and 305 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, along with a hatchback for easy access.
Up front, the driver and front-seat passenger are treated to one of the best interiors in the business, with a quality feel throughout and a stylish dashboard. Standard specification is high, although many people dive into the options catalogue, which is good news if you’re picking up a used example.
