If you're in the market for a used car you'll probably be thinking about those sweet savings you're going to make. The used car market is full of great value cars, and we at BuyaCar have made it our mission to find you the best deal there is to offer.

Of course, there's the price, mileage and condition to be aware of, but the saving you'll make on a used car will be quickly cancelled out if that car goes wrong once it's on your driveway. That's where finding a car with plenty of warranty left can be extremely important.

One of the disadvantages of buying used or nearly new cars is that the remaining warranty could be small – or it could possibly have expired entirely. This is particularly true with used cars whose original manufacturer-supplied warranty is only three years or 60,000 miles from new.

But there are cars out there with far more generous warranties of up to seven years, and we've picked out a selection of those models that will still have plenty of manufacturer-backed warranty remaining, even if they’re already a couple of years old.

There is limited variety when it comes to cars with this distinction however, as you're going to be looking for cars that come with a seven-year warranty off the shelf. As a result your only real options are going to be Kia, MG or Ssanyong, but who said that was a bad thing?

If you're looking for a substantial used car warranty, read on for our pick of the best used cars you can buy with five years' warranty remaining.

Best used cars with five years' warranty remaining

1. Kia Picanto

Best used city car with five years' warranty left

Latest Kia Picanto deals from £4,495
Monthly finance from £87

Korean car giant Kia was a pioneer of the seven-year warranty and its range of cars is the broadest and generally most accomplished of all the manufacturers offering big warranties, so you’ll see this badge popping up more than once in this list.

The Kia Picanto the smallest offering, and it combines perky small car charm and manoeuvrability combined with big-car build quality. And its warranty will have your back for 100,000 miles of zipping around town.

The latest 2019 Picanto models are available on BuyaCar from as little as £7,795 or £134 per month, and you'll be getting pretty much all of that substantial warranty on a used car.

2. MG3

Best used supermini with five years' warranty left

The MG3 is small car that majors on interior space and value for money. The level of fit and finish really isn’t on par with that of, say, a Volkswagen Polo, and nor is the attention to detail of the model’s design, if we’re being brutally honest.

But it does represent fantastic value for money – both new and used – and that seven-year warranty from new means you’ll still have plenty of years left on it if you go for it as a used car. Be warned, though: that seven-year warranty only applies to MG3s sold after 1 September 2018. It’s also limited to 80,000 miles, but that is at least enough to cover the average annual mileage.

A quick search on BuyaCar will bring up prices of around £11,000 or £200 per month for a 2019 MG 3, so you'll be making the most of that great warranty at a pretty affordable price.

3. Kia Stonic

Best used small crossover with five years' warranty left

Latest Kia Stonic deals from £11,399
Monthly finance from £176

If you want a funky-looking SUV crossover that’s small enough to nip around busy city streets and squeeze into awkward parking space, then the Kia Stonic could be just the ticket. It’s compact, with suitably chunky off-roader-inspired looks and is both fun to whizz around town in and capable of longer motorway journeys. And with that 100,000-mile warranty you’ll have peace of mind if you do end up putting on big miles.

There are 58 2019 Kia Sotnic models available on BuyaCar with prices starting at £12,451 or £183 per month. So get your hands on one quick and make the most of that substantial seven-year warranty.

4. SsangYong Korando

Best used medium crossover with five years' warranty left

SsangYong genuinely offers one of the best warranty deals around. Any one of its cars come from new with a seven-year warranty as standard. And it’s quite a protection package. It’ll run to 150,000 miles (which means you could pile on 20,000 miles a year and still not exceeed the mileage limit in seven years), and the audio/sat-nav is covered for the length of that time too (not often the case with other long-term warranties).

As a car, the Korando is a capable and practical family SUV. Get one built after the middle of 2019 and you’ll get the sharply styled and spacious all-new model.

5. Kia Ceed GT

Best used sporty car with five years' warranty left

Sporty and sensible are not always two words that go comfortably hand in hand, but the Ceed GT manages to put a foot in both camps. It’s fast enough to deliver real performance thrills (although it isn’t as fast as most full-fat hot hatches) while offering decent amounts of space for passengers.

There’s a pleasing VW Golf-like solidity to the way the interior is put together, too. Do be aware, however, that battery and air-conditioning systems are only covered with a 24-month warranty, which is the case for all other Kias on this list.

6. Kia Ceed SW

Best used estate with five years' warranty left

Latest Kia Ceed Sportswagon deals from £7,898
Monthly finance from £149

Solid, sensible family motoring is more or less defined by the small estate car. It delivers maximum space with the fuel efficiency that you just can’t achieve with the bigger frontal area you’d get in an SUV that offers similar interior dimensions.

If you’re inclined to buy a Ceed hatchback but are considering an SUV to get more space, take a look at the Ceed SW first. It might just surprise you.

7. Kia Sorento

Best used large SUV with five years' warranty left

Latest Kia Sorento deals from £13,395
Monthly finance from £221

The spacious Sorento is a great family holdall, with room for seven people (including the driver) in three rows of seats. Its bluff-yet-rounded design has a suitably chunky off-roader feel, and its raised driving position gives you a commanding view of the road.

The interior design and quality, meanwhile, is impressively upmarket in look and feel. In fact, have close your eyes (not while driving, of course) and yuo could almost mistake the interior ambience for an Audi or Mercedes-Benz product.
