The best Toyota Aygo deals including everything you need to know about this good-value city car

The Toyota Aygo is a city car that’s good to drive, cheap to run and sports a distinctive design. It’s a popular choice as a first car because of the low insurance costs, and the good news is that thanks to our best Toyota Aygo deals here, the purchase price is low as well.

Other city car options for a similar monthly cost include the Skoda Citigo, Peugeot 108, Citroen C1, Volkswagen Up, Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto. All of these models are great and it’s generally for similar reasons - they’re cheap to buy and run, fun to drive and really easy to manoeuvre around town.

The Toyota Aygo is part of a trio of cars built at the same factory, so if you can’t find a version of the Toyota Aygo that works for you, the Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1 have the same mechanical parts and only subtle changes to the looks, so it’s worth checking for deals on all three of these cheap city cars.

There’s just one engine available, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol with just over 70hp. It’s only a small car, so that engine is powerful enough and it helps to keep running costs low: expect cheap insurance and fuel economy of over 50mpg. Most Aygos are manual, but you can get an automatic version called ‘X-Shift’ and this version isn’t quite as economical.

The Aygo isn’t a roomy car; the rear seats aren’t very comfortable for adults on long trips, and the boot is small. Yet this is the case in almost all city cars, and the Aygo counteracts this by being comfortable and enjoyable to drive, easy to park, and even surprisingly good for cruising on the motorway.

It’s a five-door only - there’s no three-door version - so access to the back seats is good. The cabin looks a little bare next to a Volkswagen Up, but there’s still a good amount of equipment for a cheap city car, as we’ll find out below.

The Aygo has been around for a while, but we’re looking at more recent post-2018 models in this article, as they have equipment many would consider essential these days. For example, Toyota added smartphone connectivity - Android Auto and Apple CarPlay - to the range in 2018.

This means there are three main trim levels that we’ll look at - X-Play, X-Trend and X-Clusiv - plus the JBL Edition. Let’s dive in and find the best Toyota Aygo deals available today.

Toyota Aygo X-Play offers

The current entry-level car in the Toyota Aygo range is the X-Play, which costs from around £13,000 when new - but you can find nearly-new or used models for much less than that.

As it’s a low-cost car you wouldn’t expect to see a really long list of standard kit, but the Aygo is relatively well equipped. You get 15-inch steel wheels and fabric seats, which you’d expect to see on a base model.

Yet there’s also high-tech features such as lane departure warning, air-conditioning, LED daytime running lights and a touchscreen media system with Bluetooth, digital radio and even a reversing camera as standard. It also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so you can link your smartphone and use its apps for sat-nav directions and music.

Look out for optional extras such as parking sensors and a body-coloured centre console.

Toyota Aygo X-Trend offers

The Aygo X-Trend features all the equipment on X-Play and more, and costs from around £14,000 when new.

It upgrades the wheels - they’re still 15 inches across, but they’re alloy wheels rather than steel wheels with hubcaps. It also gets coloured exterior trim on the wing mirrors, along the bottom of the doors and under the front grille.

Other standard equipment on this model includes automatic headlights, front fog lights, tinted windows and climate control. Notable optional extras to keep an eye out for include an electrically-operated large sunroof that Toyota calls a ‘fun-roof’ and the useful parking sensors.

The Toyota Aygo JBL Edition does what it says on the tin. It features an upgraded JBL stereo set-up with five speakers including a subwoofer in the boot, and costs from around £14,500 when new.

It comes with 15-inch alloys, a special grey and orange paint job, auto headlights, tinted windows, climate control and a cloth interior trim with orange highlights to match the exterior paint.
