Cheapest cars with Apple CarPlay

In the world of smartphones, connectivity is key: these are the cheapest cars with Apple CarPlay

Buying a used car with a few miles under its belt doesn't mean you need to get left behind in the technology stakes. Smartphones are at the centre of virtually everything we do, including providing in-car entertainment and functionality, and if you're an Apple user we're sure Apple CarPlay is probably somewhere near the top of your priority list.

Plugging your phone into a compatible system allows you to switch the media system screen in your car to a familiar Apple layout of app tiles, allowing access to sat-nav, messaging, music and hands-free phone calls, along with any other apps that work with CarPlay.

You can have messages read out to you on the move, dictate new ones using Siri voice commands, and access menus. It all sounds super high-tech and probably very expensive right? Well, not necessarily.

Prices for cars with Apple CarPlay continue to fall as the earliest models, released in 2015, have been replaced by newer models. In fact, there are even some options for less than £150 a month.

Cheapest small cars with Apple CarPlay

1. Fiat 500

Used deals from £7,415
Monthly finance from £0*

Apple CarPlay arrived in the Fiat 500 in January 2018 when the special edition 500 Mirror went on sale. The big selling point was Fiat's high-definition seven-inch touchscreen media system, called Uconnect Link.

Since then, it has become standard on 500 S models and optional on the rest of the range. However, fans of the 500 might prefer to stick with the traditional-looking radio that's fitted to lower-specification Pop models, and which fits with the car's retro design.

Given that the first version of the Fiat 500 - the 21st-century version, since the original was launched in the 1950s - is more than a decade old and has been replaced with a newer model, it isn't quite as slick to drive as more recent cars, with a little more engine noise and a slightly more bumpy ride than some rivals. If you want a car with character, though, you may value this extra involvement in the driving process.

2. Kia Picanto

Used deals from £8,600
Monthly finance from £194*

The latest version of the Kia Picanto went on sale in April 2017 and every car fitted with a dashboard touchscreen media system has Apple CarPlay included as standard. That makes it easy to find a model that includes this desirable tech.

Versions with CarPlay include '3' specification cars, as well as GT-Line and X-Line models. The touchscreen wasn't available on '1' or '2' specification cars, so avoid these if CarPlay is key to you. The Picanto offers excellent value for money and maximises the space available in its small shell, with decent legroom and boot space for a car of its size.

3. Citroen C3

Used deals from £8,100
Monthly finance from £184*

While the earlier Citroen C3s didn’t do much to stand out, the latest model really lives up to the brand’s famed blend of personality and affordability. Good looks, a generous amount of tech and a comfortable ride can be enjoyed across the range.

Naturally, part of this generous amount of tech is the inclusion of Apple CarPlay in every model. In addition, base models include alloy wheels, electric windows and folding mirrors, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control and rear parking sensors.

4. Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 108/Citroen C1

Used deals from £8,250
Monthly finance from £0*
Used deals from £7,310

Used deals from £7,379
Monthly finance from £0*

The reason that we’ve included three cars in one here is because the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1 are all based upon the same underpinnings, with one of the only differences between the three being the outside looks.

One of the many similarities, however, is the inclusion of CarPlay with these models. If you opt for a facelifted model from 2018 or later, CarPlay is standard on all versions of the Aygo, the Flair and Feel trims of the C1, and the Active and Allure 108s. Fortunately, all of these models can easily be found on BuyaCar starting from less than £7,500.

5. Vauxhall Corsa

Used deals from £6,100
Monthly finance from £172*

Vauxhall brought Apple CarPlay on board early, fitting it to all but entry-level Sting and Sting R Corsa models from the end of 2015. It's part of Vauxhall's in-car software system called R4.0 Intellilink.

The Corsa is one of the cheapest vehicles available with Apple CarPlay, thanks to its low initial price and plentiful supply. Despite a raft of newer small cars, including the new Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and indeed a new Vauxhall Corsa, this generation of Corsa remains a comfortable and cheap to run hatchback, with a reasonable amount of space for its size.

Cheapest SUVs and crossovers with Apple CarPlay

1. Suzuki Vitara

Used deals from £9,990
Monthly finance from £214*

The Suzuki Vitara was one of the very first small SUVs to carry something of a contemporary image. So, naturally, the latest version that was introduced in 2015 needed to appeal with the latest tech, so CarPlay was an obvious choice.

It is not standard across the range, however, and you will need to opt for at least the SZ-T trim - which also includes a reversing camera and sat-nav.

2. Kia Sportage

Used deals from £7,350
Monthly finance from £239*

The latest Kia Sportage is a much more sophisticated car than its earlier predecessors. It’s smarter in appearance, more refined and, perhaps crucially, much more technologically advanced.

Standard kit across all models is very generous, with CarPlay included on trim level ‘2’ and above. A facelift in 2020 saw the original entry-level ‘1’ discontinued, so any model after this will have CarPlay as standard.

3. Jeep Renegade

Used deals from £9,790
Monthly finance from £0*

The Renegade is probably the most capable off-roader on this list, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for anything less in the way of creature comforts.

CarPlay is fitted as standard to the Longitude trim level and above. In 2018, the Longitude became the entry-level trim level for the Renegade, which also brought along some additional interior upgrades, so this age or newer would be the ones to go for.

Cheapest family cars with Apple CarPlay

1. Kia Ceed

Used deals from £8,871
Monthly finance from £215*

The Kia Ceed was replaced with a new model in 2018. But that didn't stop the company from upgrading the car two years earlier, when CarPlay became standard on all but the entry-level '1' cars.

This makes the Ceed an excellent used car choice, as there's still some of the seven-year warranty left on 2016 and 2017 cars, while prices are low due to the arrival of the newer model.

2. Vauxhall Astra

Used deals from £5,795
Monthly finance from £200*

When this version of the Vauxhall Astra arrived in October 2015, it was a car at the cutting edge: one of the first that was available with Apple CarPlay. In fact, every Astra of this generation should include the software, making it easy to find the right one for you.

Several years on, the Astra remains one of the best family hatchbacks available, thanks to its spaciousness and smooth ride - even if the Volkswagen Golf is more comfortable and the Ford Focus nimbler.
