Used cars with the latest tech from under £150 per month: these are the cheapest cars with Apple CarPlay

Buying a used car with a few miles under its belt doesn't mean you need to get left behind in the technology stakes. Nowadays, smartphones are at the centre of virtually everything we do, including providing in-car entertainment and functionality and for Apple users we're sure Apple CarPlay is probably somewhere near the top of your priority list.

Plugging your phone in to a compatible system allows you to switch the media system screen in your car to a familiar Apple layout of app tiles, allowing access to sat-nav, messaging, music and hands-free phone calls, along with any other apps that work with CarPlay.

You can have messages read out to you on the move; dictate new ones using Siri voice commands, and access menus using the touchscreen or, again, with Siri. It all sounds super high tech and probably very expensive right? Well, not necessarily.

Prices for cars with Apple CarPlay continue to fall as the earliest models, released in 2015, have been replaced by newer models. In fact, there are several options for less than £150 and all 10 picks on this page can be driven for under £200 per month with a typical finance agreement.

Cheapest cars with Apple CarPlay

Cheapest small cars with Apple CarPlay

1. Fiat 500

Used Fiat 500 with Apple CarPlay from £7,500
Monthly finance from £125

Apple CarPlay arrived in the Fiat 500 in January 2018 when the special edition 500 Mirror went on sale. The big selling point was Fiat's high-definition seven-inch touchscreen meida system, called Uconnect Link.

Since then, it has become standard on 500 S models and optional on the rest of the range. However, fans of the 500 might prefer to stick with the traditional-looking radio that's fitted to lower-specification Pop models, and which fits with the car's retro-design.

Given that the first version of the Fiat 500 - the 21st centruy version, since the original was launched in the 1950s - is more than a decade old and has been replaced with a newer model, it isn't quite as slick to drive as more recent cars, with a little more engine noise and a slightly more bumpy ride than some rivals. If you want a car with character, though, you may value this extra involvement in the driving process.

2. Kia Picanto

Used Kia Picanto with Apple CarPlay from £7,498
Monthly finance from £130

The latest version of the Kia Picanto went on sale in April 2017 and every car fitted with a dashboard touchscreen media system has included Apple CarPlay as standard. That makes it easy to find a model that includes this desirable tech.

Versions with CarPlay include '3' specification cars, as well as GT-Line and X-Line models. The touchscreen wasn't available on '1' or '2' specification cars, so avoid these if CarPlay is key to you. The Picanto offers excellent value for money and maximises the space available in its small shell, with decent legroom and boot space for a car of its size.

3. Nissan Micra

Used Nissan Micra with Apple CarPlay from £7,395
Monthly finance from £126

Apart from entry-level Visia and Visia+ versions of this generation of Nissan Micra, Apple CarPlay comes as standard, and the system is an improvement over Nissan's dated-looking graphics, so you'll probably be using it as much as possible.

Elsewhere, this version of the Micra feels completely up-to-date with a modern design, soft-touch materials inside and a large boot for a car of its size.

4. Suzuki Ignis

Used Suzuki Ignis with Apple CarPlay from £8,000
Monthly finance from £121

Higher-specification SZ-T and SZ5 versions of the Ignis come with a touchscreen media system that's equipped with Apple CarPlay. This makes the Ignis an inexpensive way to get CarPlay in your next car.

The tiny but tall Suzuki has more character than most small city cars, thanks to its quirky design, nippy performance in town and nimbleness when changing direction. It's less impressive at higher speeds, where it lacks power, though, so if you plan to do a lot of motorway driving, another small car might be a better option for you.

5. Vauxhall Corsa

Used Vauxhall Corsa with Apple CarPlay from £6,000
Monthly finance from £103

Vauxhall brought Apple CarPlay on board early, fitting it to all but entry-level Sting and Sting R Corsa models from the end of 2015. It's part of Vauxhall's in-car software system called R4.0 Intellilink.

The Corsa is one of the cheapest vehicles available with Apple CarPlay, thanks to its low initial price and plentiful supply. Despite a raft of newer small cars, including the new Ford FiestaVolkswagen Polo and indeed a new Vauxhall Corsa, this generation of Corsa remains a comfortable and cheap to run hatchback, with a reasonable amount of space for its size.

Cheapest SUVs and crossovers with Apple CarPlay

1. Citroen C3 Aircross

Used Citroen C3 Aircross with Apple CarPlay from £8,691
Monthly finance from £127

CarPlay comes as standard on mid-range Feel and higher-specification Flair C3 Aircross models - just avoid the entry-level Touch car, which lacks the touchscreen media system required for full mobile phone pairing.

The software has been available since the car went on sale in 2017, and it's just a small part of what makes the C3 Aircross one of the best small crossovers on the market. It's spacious, good value for money - especially as a nearly new car - and does a good job of soaking up the jolts from driving along Britain's bumpy roads, thanks to its soft suspension.

2. Kia Stonic

Used Kia Stonic with Apple CarPlay from £9,995
Monthly finance from £148

It doesn't matter which version of the Stonic you choose, all come with Apple CarPlay as standard. Used prices for the car, which only arrived at the end of 2017, have already dropped to below £200 per month and will continue to drop further.

It's one of a growing band of small crossover cars, which combine the efficiency and compact dimensions of a small hatchback (such as the Kia Rio or Ford Fiesta), with a higher driving position for a good view of the road ahead. Despite the extra height, it's stable on the road and barely leans in corners, but it's less comfortable over bumps than a lower car.

3. Vauxhall Mokka X

Used Vauxhall Mokka X with Apple CarPlay from £8,099
Monthly finance from £127

Apple CarPlay became standard across the Mokka range when the updated Vauxhall Mokka X went on sale in October 2016, meaning that there are now plenty of used models that feature the technology. Active and Elite models have a seven-inch touchscreen media system but there's a larger eight-inch version with Design Nav, Elite Nav and Ultimate cars.

Buying a second-hand Mokka X eliminates one of its negative points - the high list price when new - and you'll end up with a well-equipped crossover car that's comfortable and more spacious than alternatives such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.

1. Kia Ceed

Used Kia Ceed with Apple CarPlay from £8,691
Monthly finance from £157

The Kia Ceed was replaced with a new model in 2018. But that didn't stop the company upgrading the car two years earlier, when CarPlay became standard on all but the entry-level "1" cars.

This makes the Ceed an excellent used car choice, as there's still plenty of seven-year warranty left on 2016 and 2017 cars, while prices are low due to the arrival of the newer model.

2. Vauxhall Astra

Used Vauxhall Astra with Apple CarPlay from £7,299
Monthly finance from £124

When this version of the Vauxhall Astra arrived in October 2015, it was a car at the cutting edge: one of the first that was available with Apple CarPlay. In fact, every Astra of this generation should include the software, making it easy to find the right one for you.

Several years on, the Astra remains one of the best family hatchbacks available, thanks to its spaciousness and smooth ride - even if the Volkswagen Golf is more comfortable and the Ford Focus nimbler.
