Cheapest Lease Deals

Cheap doesn't always mean nasty. We highlight the cheapest lease deals on the market today

The cheapest way to get behind the wheel of a brand new car can often be with leasing.

For less than £150 a month (prices start at around £120), you can choose from several excellent models, which can all be delivered to your door.

You’re effectively renting the vehicle for anything between two and four years, so it’s a straightforward agreement: you make a initial payment, and then fixed monthly instalments. At the end, you just hand the car back.

If you want the option to own the car at the end, then you would be better off looking at PCP finance, which also comes with low monthly payments. PCP is also available or used car, which means that you’ve got greater choice for even less money.

Volkswagen up!

Volkswagen up! Leasing deals from £119 a month

There’s no better city car than the Volkswagen up!, which hides a surprisingly spacious interior within its compact dimensions.

And despite its size, it doesn’t feel tinny at all, with a good level of comfort and quietness compared with rivals (although larger superminis are better in this respect).

Mid-range Move up! Models are the cheapest available at the moment, with leases starting from £119 a month. These cars include alloy wheels, air conditioning and Bluetooth for connecting your phone wirelessly. The least expensive deals restrict you to driving a maximum of 5,000 miles a year, but this can be increased to 10,000 miles for an extra £8.50 a month.

Fiat 500

Fiat 500 leasing deals from £135 a month

It’s been adding character to traffic jams for a decade and the cartoon-styling of the Fiat 500 hasn’t lost its effect yet.

The small city car remains one of the most distinctive cars on the road and is still in demand. It’s cheap too, thanks to lease payments as low as £135 on a four year agreement, which works out as less than £1,800 a year, with a large 10,000 annual mileage limit.

Entry-level Pop cars might be basic, but they don’t lack any of the car’s charm. That said, you can upgrade to the higher-specification 500 Lounge, which includes air conditioning, dashboard touchscreen  with Bluetooth and rear parking sensors for £150 a month.

Skoda Fabia

Skoda Fabia leasing deals from £140 a month

An updated version of the Skoda Fabia is about to go on sale, so the last of the outgoing cars are now available with big discounts.

These aren’t outdated models that have lost their edge either. This version of the Fabia was launched three years ago, and it’s still competitive, matching most rivals for space and comfort. You’ll miss out on minor tweaks to design and a few extra bits of technology that will be fitted to the updated car, but you’re unlikely to miss them if you opt for the good value Colour Edition.

This is fitted with an efficient and powerful 1-litre, 95 horsepower engine, and includes alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a 6.5in touchscreen, air conditioning and a roof in black or white. The car’s available from £140 a month on a four-year agreement, or £153 for two years.

Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz leasing deals from £142 a month

If you’re looking for space at a cheap price, then the Honda Jazz is virtually unbeatable. For just £142 a month and an initial payment of under £1,000, the recently updated Jazz can be on your driveway for two years.

It’s got clever rear “magic seats” with cushions that pop up - like cinema chairs - so you can load large items in the footwells without going to the trouble of folding down the seats; the 354-litre boot is larger than most other superminis on the market and the high roof makes life more comfortable for taller passengers.

Some of the cheapest deals are available with EX cars, which are packed with equipment, including a rear-view camera, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors, as well as autonomous emergency braking, which can help avoid front crashes.

Seat Ibiza

Seat Ibiza leasing deals from £144 a month

You see a cheap car and think, “What’s wrong?” In the case of the Seat Ibiza, the answer is “Absolutely nothing”.

The Ibiza is the best supermini that you can buy at the moment, thanks to its ideal blend of space, comfort, nimbleness and technology. With lease prices starting at just under £145 a month, it’s also leading on value.

In SE Technology specification, the Ibiza comes with sat-nav on an 8in touchscreen, simple mobile phone connectivity, cruise control and 16in alloy wheels. Granted, the 75 horsepower (hp) engine doesn’t have quite as much power as you might like (there’s a more expensive 95hp version), but it can cope with motorway speeds.

The cheapest lease deals have a low mileage limit of 6,000 miles, but this can be extended to 10,000 for less than £3 more per month.
