SUVs to finance in 2020

New SUVs typically come with steep prices, but finance a used model and there are great PCP deals available with low monthly payments

As the fashion for SUVs and off-road style cars continues to escalate, it’s no wonder more and more people are searching for the best SUV deals. All this demand, however, means that most new SUVs come with hefty cash prices, pushing them out of reach for many drivers.

That needn't be the case if you're open to a nearly new or used car, though, as SUVs - just like any other car - lose value fastest when new, meaning that you can save thousands by getting even a six-month old or one-year old version. That means that when it comes to SUV finance, choosing a nearly new or used car will save you a packet over the equivalent new car - whether you're using car finance or paying cash.

We have great finance deals on SUVs right across the board, so whether you’re looking for a high-riding compact car or medium-size hatchback with off-road styling, a full-on luxury off-roader with all the bells and whistles, or anything in-between - you should be able to find the car you want on BuyaCar. Click on the button below to start your SUV search.

When you look at all the features and benefits SUVs provide, it’s no wonder they’re so popular. They tend to be more eye-catching than equivalently sized hatchbacks or saloons, with more extrovert styling, and of course the raised ride height gives them a more imposing presence on the road.

The benefits can be more than skin deep, too. Raised ride height gives SUV drivers and passengers a good view of the road ahead, while the big boxy bodies tend to offer substantial amounts of space for people and luggage, making them a very practical option whether you’re looking at more affordable or upmarket options.

To help you kick off your own search, we’ve highlighted a handful of SUV models that we think offer strong value right now, whether you’re looking for something nearly new on a budget or want to push the boat out on an older luxury model.

So check out our pick of the deals below, then start your own search for the best SUV finance deals in 2020, and find the one that’s right for you.

Best SUV finance deals 2020

1. Audi Q3

Used deals from £10,990
Monthly finance from £202

The Q3 has been a wildly successful model for Audi, with a feel and style that condenses some of the best aspects of the bigger and more luxurious Q5 and Q7 models into a compact package. Sharing family design themes across all its SUVs - as with its regular cars - means the prestige of the pricey Audi flagship models rubs off on the smaller ones like the Q3.

Throw in the fact that Audi designs are always evolutionary when models are replaced - meaning that older models often look very similar to brand new ones - and you can see why a three- or four-year old Q3 still looks so appealing, even though a new version was introduced a couple of years back.

Here on BuyaCar you find turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol and 2.0 TDI diesel versions of the Q3, from three years old with just 30,000-miles on the clock, at around the £200 per month mark on PCP finance.

Given the super-solid build quality we expect from Audi these days, that’s the sort of age and mileage that’s barely noticeable in terms of wear and tear. It’s also a tiny monthly payment for a model that - just a couple of years back - was one of the most desirable SUVs around when new.

2. Volvo XC60

Used deals from £13,058
Monthly finance from £217

Here’s another previous-generation SUV that retains terrific desirability thanks to its cool design and strong build quality, and the fact that its replacement still looks rather similar. The last XC60 was so popular Volvo built it for around 10 years, but regular updates ensured it remained in demand until the end. It was replaced in 2017 and while the newer XC60 is an absolute cracker, there’s not much wrong with the old one - especially for the money.

Between £220 and £250 per month should get you behind the wheel of one of the last 2017 model-year XC60s. For a large family SUV with the classy style, comfort and safety this car provides, that’s a lot of ‘feel good’ factor for not a lot of cash.

Sure, you’ll be looking at a car with 40-50,000 miles on the clock, but again these are high quality, strongly built machines that tend to be driven sensibly by caring owners. We wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage at these prices.

3. Kia Sportage

Used deals from £9,790
Monthly finance from £149

The current Sportage was introduced in 2016 in the UK, when it became an instant hit thanks to its modern, contemporary styling, impressive specification and Kia’s ever-improving brand image. We have 2016 models here on BuyaCar from as little as £150 per month, but if it was our money we’d be looking for a great deal on the 2018 facelift model which comes with more efficient engines and various design tweaks.

You can get behind the wheel of one of the 1.6-litre petrol or diesel 2018 Kia Sportage models for £170 to £190 per month. Don’t worry that you’ll likely be looking at the lowest spec Sportage 1 for that money, because the equipment list includes tonnes of desirable kit including air-conditioning, a digital radio, Bluetooth, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a seven-inch touchscreen media system. A 2018 car will also be only a couple of years into Kia’s amazing seven-year warranty, so you'll still have way more warranty left than most brand new cars.

Other Sportage benefits include tidy handling around corners and plenty of interior space, while its relaxing drive is another reason the car has become so popular with families.

4. Land Rover Discovery Sport

Used deals from £16,995
Monthly finance from £257

If you like your SUVs more upmarket in style, it hard to deny the handsome, luxury appeal of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Sure, it may not have the fashionable feel of some of its more eye-catching contemporaries, but the 'Disco Sport' has impeccable credentials for your local Waitrose car park - or if necessary, your local grouse moor.

The model was lightly facelifted in 2019, when hybrid tech was added to the mix, but you’d have to be a bit of an anorak to be able to spot the differences, so you shouldn't feel short changed saving your money and going for an older version.

We have plenty of nearly new models on offer at BuyaCar, but couldn’t help being drawn to some of the higher-mileage early cars on offer for the best value. Just £260 to £280 per month will put a 2016 Discovery Sport with 40-60,000 miles on your driveway, while bumping the budget up to £300 per month will put you in a relatively low mileage model from the same year.

5. Dacia Duster

Used deals from £5,650
Monthly finance from £114

If you think of the Dacia Duster as an attractive but cheap compact SUV, wait until you see how much you get for your money and how much (or should we say how little) a used version costs. This is a car you can buy as much for its appeal as its low cost.

We have two-year-old examples of this well-regarded budget SUV, with average mileage, on offer from as little as £120 per month with PCP finance. You may not be that excited by the Dacia badge, but you can’t pretend that it’s not stunning value. If you’re not bothered by the badge, then the chances are you’ll be equally impressed by the Duster’s other qualities as practical family transport.

An update in 2018 gave the model a much more fashionable design and more upmarket interior - you'd never guess it costs so little from the feeling inside - while the five-door body is even more roomy and practical than before. You don’t get the same level of luxury as you’d find in pricier rivals, but the Ambiance trim level gives you decent enough levels of standard equipment - although you'll want to avoid super-basic Access trim.

6. Jeep Renegade

Used deals from £9,050
Monthly finance from £158

As one of the most iconic off-road brands around, Jeep was always going to be keen to join the SUV revolution by offering a smaller model, which came in the form of the Renegade in 2014. This shares much of the platform it's built on with the Fiat 500X SUV - as Jeep is now owned by Fiat.

The Jeep has a much more rugged look than its Fiat stablemate, as befits the Jeep’s ‘all American’ brand image. In fact, the cars look so different we’d doubt most people would think they were related at all. If you're after a small but rugged looking SUV then, the Renegade could be a good choice.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, the prices of the two stablemates are pretty similar, with nearly new 2020 models available for around the £300 per month mark with a relatively small deposit, dropping below that if you're able to put down a bigger upfront payment.

We have a soft spot for the Jeep version though, with its rufty-tufty looks. With four-year old (pre-facelift) versions starting at just £150 per month on PCP finance, meanwhile, you can get loads of image for the money if you're happy to go for a slightly older Renegade.

7. Nissan X-Trail

Used deals from £15,495
Monthly finance from £223

If you need a medium-sized SUV with seven-seats, then one of the best value options is the popular Nissan X-Trail. Just be aware that only the smallest adults will be able to fit into the rear row of seats - the X-Trail is very much a 'five adults and two children' seven-seater rather than a seven seater that can cater for adults in each seat.

Although the third row of seats is optional, ticking the seven-seater filter in the BuyaCar search delivers a good supply of suitably-equipped X-Trails. It also delivers great value, as monthly payments start from less than £200 with PCP finance - that’s enough to secure you a three-year old car with around 40,000 miles or less.

While the X-Trail doesn’t feel as bang up-to-date as some of its more recent rivals, the range was freshened up in 2019 and it’s still a convincing option with efficient engines, loads of space inside and stylish modern design.

Nearly-new models look good value too. £275 to £300 per month will get you into a 2020 model with the punchy and economical diesel engine, with low miles, or even 'delivery miles' in some cases, meaning the car has only covered a handful of miles.

8. Range Rover Sport

Used deals from £34,140
Monthly finance from £487

Bargains are always relative, and although running a Range Rover would never be described as ‘cheap’, the ravages of luxury car depreciation - where expensive cars often lose value faster than cheaper ones - work in your favour if you hanker after this eye-catching upmarket SUV.

New models start at £60,000 and upwards, but if you’re looking at three-to-four year old models then the prices become a lot more approachable. Here on BuyaCar we have Range Rover Sports available for as little as £420 to £450 per month on PCP finance.

The Range Rover Sport's timeless design means few people will notice that it's not brand new when you make your arrival, and few would criticise your choice of the 3.0-litre diesel engine either - fuelling the large-engined petrol versions requires a stout constitution and a fat wallet.

Still, the 3.0-litre diesel is a highly-accomplished cruiser, and the Range Rover’s club-like interior means you’ll feel like a king of the road for only a princely outlay.
