69-plate deals: biggest savings on 2019 models

A pre-registered 69-plate car will save you thousands of pounds and could be on your driveway within days

Why wait for a new car when you can get one delivered to your door within a fortnight? Right now, the BuyaCar website has thousands of nearly-new 69-plate cars available, many with huge discounts that could save you a small fortune.

All of the cars we’ve listed here carry the latest 69-plate, meaning they were registered no earlier than September 2019. They haven’t been sold to a customer before, but because they have been registered to the dealer, technically you’re the second owner.

Many are loaded with must-have options and accessories, while some will have just a few miles on the clock. We’ve selected a group of less familiar cars with discounts so impressive, you might consider a more left-field alternative to the norm.

Now is a really good time to grab a deal, with discounts of up to £10,000 available. Put simply, this could be the difference between driving home in a basic entry-level model or one with all the bells and whistles.

Biggest savings on 2019 cars

1. Alfa Romeo Giulia

Our pick Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2 Speciale
List price £37,795
BuyaCar price from £27,995
Monthly finance from £391
BuyaCar 2019 models Limited stock

Not everyone who’s in the market for a family saloon car takes a wander down German street. Look beyond the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz and you’ll discover cars like the Alfa Romeo Giulia.

This four-door saloon blends gorgeous Italian styling with rear-wheel-drive dynamics, which, as your car-loving mates will tell you, makes for an enhanced driving experience. The Giulia isn’t a big seller in the UK, so you’re guaranteed a little exclusivity, not to mention a few nods of approval at the office Christmas party.

Speciale (best pronounced in a strong Italian accent) is the mid-range trim level and features more tasty toppings than your favourite takeaway pizza. The list is long, but of interest to you will be the dual-zone climate control, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, heated seats, heated steering wheel, eight-inch colour display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Tan leather injects a touch of Italian style to the interior, while the xenon headlights will mean that you’re ready to cope with the long winter nights. It’s powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is both quick and efficient. How does a 0-62mph time of 7.1 seconds and 52.3mpg grab you?

Discounts of around 25% are not uncommon, so you’ll get more for your money by opting for a fiery Italian over a sophisticated German.

2. Volvo S90

Our pick Volvo S90 D4 R-Design
List price £41,915
BuyaCar price from £32,995
Monthly finance from £391
BuyaCar 2019 models from £23,300
Monthly finance from £300

Short of lounging in a hot bath or getting a foot massage from Enya, we can’t think of many things more relaxing than driving a Volvo S90. Everything about this big saloon has been designed to offer maximum comfort and minimum stress.

The styling is sharper than a tailored suit, while the cabin is an aesthetics masterclass. A nine-inch tablet-style display dominates the dashboard, with an overall level of quality that’s more than a match for its German rivals.

Predictably, crash prevention and protection feature high on the list of S90 strengths, with a full suite of safety systems included as standard. An eight-speed transmission is fitted to all models, because a manual gearbox would only ruin the laid-back atmosphere.

R-Design trim gives the S90 a sporting pretence it can’t live up to, but the lowered ride height and bling alloy wheels deliver some added kerb appeal. Standard kit is generous across the range, but Volvo charges extra for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

With discounts of around 20% and competitive PCP deals, the Volvo S90 should be on your shortlist if a chilled-out vibe tops your list of priorities.

3. Seat Tarraco

Our pick Seat Tarraco 2.0 TDI Xcellence Lux
List price £37,065
BuyaCar price from £28,495
Monthly finance from £359
BuyaCar 2019 models from £23,999
Monthly finance from £305

The Tarraco is Seat’s third and largest SUV – and arguably the most impressive of the trio. Closely related to the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq, the Tarraco is a seven-seat SUV that’s perfect for growing families.

Seat knows what buyers want from their family SUVs, which is why an eight-inch colour display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, DAB radio, customisable digital dials, rear parking sensors and three-zone climate control are fitted to every model.

Higher trim levels offer more toys than an Argos Christmas catalogue, while the third row of seats are perfect for small children (or the in-laws, if you’re feeling suitably mischievous).

Seat is being particularly generous with the discounts on the Tarraco, offering savings of between 20 and 25%.

4. Peugeot 3008

Our pick Peugeot 3008 1.6 PureTech GT Line
List price £34,890
BuyaCar price from £26,990
Monthly finance from £379
BuyaCar 2019 models Limited stock

This could be the automotive equivalent of having your cake and eating it. Not only is the Peugeot 3008 one of the best family cars you can buy, it’s also available with huge slices of its list price taken off.

From the outside, the 3008 cuts a mean figure, with a look that allows it to rub shoulders with the likes of the Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar I-Pace. Inside, the cabin is one of the most impressive at any price point.

GT Line adds an extra layer of kit to an already gluttonous level of standard specification. Full LED headlights, scrolling indicators, wireless phone charging and a host of cosmetic upgrades are the icing on a cake that includes 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and dual-zone climate control.

Initial strong demand meant that deals were hard to come by, but discounts are now readily available. Securing a tasty 20% saving shouldn’t be too difficult.

5. Citroen C4 Cactus

Our pick Citroen C4 Cactus 1.2 PureTech Flair
List price £23,460
BuyaCar price from £15,995
Monthly finance from £256
BuyaCar 2019 models from £12,100
Monthly finance from £185

The Citroen C4 Cactus is a family hatchback like no other. If you’re hoping to iron out the worst creases of Britain’s roads – but your budget can’t stretch to a magic carpet – the C4 Cactus is the next best thing.

Clever suspension reduces sudden jolts over speed bumps and potholes, while the seats are bolstered with extra padding to give them the feel of something you might order from DFS. Put simply, it’s impossible to find a more comfortable car at this price point.

Standard specification is generous, with 17-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch touchscreen, automatic air-conditioning, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay fitted to all models. The PureTech 130hp 1.2-litre petrol engine offers the best blend of performance and economy.

Because the C4 Cactus is a left-field choice – many buyers opt for the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf – securing a discount is surprisingly easy. The BuyaCar website features cars with up to a third off the list price, making the C4 Cactus cheaper than an entry-level Ford Fiesta.

6. Mazda 6

Our pick Mazda 6 2.2 GT Sport Nav+
List price £31,895
BuyaCar price from £24,995
Monthly finance from £390
BuyaCar 2019 models from: £22,000
Monthly finance from: £332

There was a time when saloon cars ruled the road – your dad probably drove one. Today, their popularity is on the wane, as buyers flock to crossovers and SUVs in their droves. But those buyers are missing out on cars that are nicer to look at and better to drive. Just ask your dad.

Your father would approve of the Mazda 6 saloon. It’s one of the best of the breed, with styling that a crossover cannot rival and a high level of standard specification. Opt for the GT Sport Nav+ to get 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather seats, dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a seriously good 11-speaker Bose audio system.

The BuyaCar website can help you to get behind the wheel of a top-spec Mazda 6 for the price of an entry-level version, with discounts of around 20%.

7. Fiat 500L

Our pick Fiat 500L 120th Anniversary
List price £18,210
BuyaCar price from £13,994
Monthly finance from £232
BuyaCar 2019 models Limited stock

What do you do when you’ve outgrown your Fiat 500 and require something a little larger. Fiat would like you to buy a 500X crossover or the 500L MPV. In the case of the latter, the styling is a tad unconventional, with Fiat attempting to add some of the 500’s cutesy styling into a larger and more practical body.

Whether it’s a successful transformation is a matter of opinion, but the body houses a hugely practical cabin, with plenty of space for five adults and their luggage. Jumping out of a 500 and into a 500L is like walking out of a tiny corner shop and into a large department store.

The 120th Anniversary edition features 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, air-conditioning, cruise control, a seven-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with six months of free Apple Music.

Because it’s been on sale for a while, the 500L is available with strong discounts, low monthly payments and large manufacturer deposit contributions. A flagship 120th Anniversary for the price of a basic model is a tempting deal.

8. SsangYong Korando

Our pick SsangYong Korando 2.2 LE
List price £20,995
BuyaCar price from £17,489
Monthly finance from £268
BuyaCar 2019 models Limited stock

You may not have heard of SsangYong, but the South Korean company has been churning out budget off-road vehicles for years. All cars come with a comprehensive seven-year and 150,000-mile warranty, so peace of mind is guaranteed.

There’s a common misconception that you shouldn’t buy a car that’s about to be replaced by a newer model, but the reverse is often true. By the end of its lifecycle, the car’s earlier faults will have been ironed out, while dealers will be keen to shift stock ahead of the replacement’s arrival. Which means deals are easier to come by.

Which is why the already inexpensive SsangYong Korando is available for the price of a mid-range Ford Fiesta. It’s not the 4x4 version, but the LE trim is packed with a generous level of equipment. It’s also spacious, practical and cheap to run.

The discounts might be smaller, but when your car is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty until 2026, who’s complaining?
