Best used 2010-2018 Audi A1 three-door PCP finance deals

The three-door Audi A1 is a stylish and upmarket supermini. This is your guide to the popular trim levels and the current offers available

The three-door Audi A1 is an upmarket rival to superminis like the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen Polo. Its quality feel, premium badge and chic styling makes it another alternative to the Mini Hatchback.

It’s actually based on the Volkswagen Polo, but many drivers are prepared to pay extra for the kudos of having the Audi badge on the grille and a more classy interior. You get the benefits of larger and more expensive Audi models in a more compact package. What’s not to like?

The A1 launched in 2010 as a three-door hatchback, with the five-door Sportback arriving in 2012. A facelift in 2014 saw the introduction of cleaner engines, more equipment and a few subtle styling tweaks. The S1 hot hatchback joined the range in 2014 as a more affordable alternative to the limited edition high-performance Audi A1 quattro.

More than a decade on from its launch, the three-door Audi A1 remains as desirable as ever - perhaps more so than the more practical, but no more spacious, five-door Sportback. Little wonder the first-generation remained on sale until 2018, when it was replaced by a new model. Strong sales means there are plenty of used examples to choose from on BuyaCar.

Up front, the A1 feels no less upmarket than the larger models in the Audi range. There’s also more room in the back than you’ll find in the Mini Hatchback, while the 270-litre boot also trumps the Mini.

Pick of the engines is the 1.0-litre TFSI petrol engine which offers a brilliant blend of performance and economy. The turbocharged unit produces 95hp, which is more than enough for nippy town driving, while you can expect to achieve around 50mpg on a long trip, so fuel bills shouldn't cost you much.

A larger 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine is available with either 125hp or 150hp, while a 1.6-litre TDI diesel is ideal for drivers doing long motorway trips who want to maximise fuel economy. Finally, the 2.0-litre petrol engine in the S1 is lifted from the Volkswagen Golf GTI, offering rapid acceleration and coming with quattro four-wheel-drive for terrific all-weather grip.

If the three-door Audi A1 sounds like the perfect supermini for you, read on for the best deals on the SE, Sport, S line, Black Edition and S1 versions. The information is based on the specification on cars sold since the update in 2014.

Audi A1 Sport deals

For an extra £2,000, many people chose to upgrade to the Sport model. The good news is that the price difference is far lower when you’re buying used - even more so when you look at the monthly payments.

Highlights include 16-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension for better handling around corners, a choice of three driving modes (Efficiency, Auto and Dynamic), sports seats with adjustable lumbar support, multi-function steering wheel, driver’s information display, aluminium trim and leather handbrake/gear knob.

The audio system is upgraded to the Audi Music Interface which features a connection for USB and audio devices including Apple iPod generation onwards, plus a charging function (dependent on device).

Audi A1 Sport Nav deals

In an effort to maintain interest in the old A1 ahead of the launch of the new A1 in 2018, Audi ditched the Sport trim in favour of the Sport Nav trim. Go for this and it’s like getting an A1 Sport, but with sat-nav thrown in for free. You also get voice control of key telephone and radio functions for improved safety behind the wheel.

Audi A1 S line deals

You’ll find more examples of three-door Audi A1s in S line trim than the basic SE model, which highlights how much many people were prepared to spend big on their new supermini. The S line commanded a £2,000 premium over the Sport when new, but again you’ll get more for your money when buying used, with a much smaller premium needed to get an S line version.

Highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels, S line sports suspension, sports seats, xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights, multifunction steering wheel with S line badge, black cloth headlining, LED interior lights and aluminium door sill trims.

The styling makeover extends to S line badges on the front wings, S line bodykit, rear diffuser and a rear spoiler for an all-round more sporty look.

Audi A1 Black Edition deals

The Black Edition would be Batman’s choice of a three-door Audi A1, but don’t be fooled by the name, because Brilliant Black isn’t the only colour available. You’ll also find examples in Glacier White, Floret Silver, Misano Red, Daytona Grey and Mythos Black.

This version takes its name from the black styling package, which extends to the high-gloss black rear diffuser, radiator grille, side air inlets, tailpipes and front lip spoiler. The number plate holder and radiator grille are finished in matt black.

Other upgrades include 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, sports seats finished in leather and Alcantara, tinted windows, light and rain sensors, electronic climate control, high-gloss centre console and stainless steel pedals.

Audi A1 Black Edition Nav deals

Yes, you guessed it, the Audi A1 Black Edition Nav is a Black Edition with sat-nav. While we’re here, it’s worth mentioning that the A1 was available with a long list of personalisation options, including 50 exclusive paint colours, contrasting roofs, panoramic roof, Bose sound system and leather seats, so many used models will have a number of these added.

While options were very expensive on new A1s, they add much less to the value of used models, so find a second-hand model with plenty of desirable kit fitted and you can get lots of extras for not much extra cash.

Audi S1 deals

More an individual model than a trim level, the Audi S1 hot hatchback features a potent 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 231hp. A 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 155mph are figures that wouldn’t look out of place in a brochure for a sports car or performance saloon, making this one extremely fast supermini.

Quattro all-wheel-drive is fitted as standard to keep you on the straight and narrow, while Audi Drive Select allows you to adjust the shock absorbers and engine sound. You also get 17-inch alloy wheels, black cloth/leather seats with contrasting red stitching, ‘S’ design body styling, roof spoiler and xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.

The list of equipment also includes black brake calipers with an S1 logo on the front calipers, ‘S’-specific gear knob, stainless steel pedals, electronic climate control and a multi-function steering with high-gloss S1 badge.

Find a used S1 Competition and you’ll be treated to the ultimate three-door Audi A1 experience - short of buying the incredibly rare and expensive A1 quattro. It commanded a premium of £2,500 over the ‘standard’ S1, which pushed the A1 deep into the territory of larger and more expensive cars.

Highlights include 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a high-gloss styling package, V-design decal in matt black or matt grey, rear tailgate decal in black or grey, double-blade roof spoiler, carbon door mirror housings and tinted rear windows.
