There’s loads of choice when it comes to compact high-riding off-roader style hatchbacks, but one of the most desirable is the Mercedes GLA, which first burst onto the scene in 2013. The combination of a posh badge and competitive new prices meant the GLA was an instant hit, and that’s great news for anyone looking for a used Mercedes GLA bargain, as there are plenty of used versions to choose from.

If that’s you, then you’ve come to the right place because here at BuyaCar we have loads of used Mercedes GLAs to choose from, with prices starting at around £13,000. If you prefer paying with the lowest possible monthly payments to having to stump up the cash upfront, BuyaCar could get you behind the wheel of a GLA for as little as £180* per month on PCP finance.

That’s great value considering the second-generation GLA wasn’t launched until 2020, so even older first-generation cars look relatively current. We have appealing used deals on newer GLAs too, of course, so whatever takes your fancy, click on the button above to look at the GLAs available now - all of which we can deliver to your door - or scroll down to work out the best type of GLA for you.

The Mercedes GLA is based on Mercedes’ Volkswagen Golf-rivalling A-Class hatchback, but while it takes up barely any more space on the road than the standard family hatchback, it does have a lot more presence thanks to its chunky looks and raised ride height.

Having said that, the GLA is only 6cms taller than its A-Class hatchback siblings, so it’s not as tall as many rivals. The raised height is enough to give drivers some improved forward vision when driving but the overall dimensions mean it’s no harder to get to grips with driving the GLA than an equivalent hatchback.

The GLA is a purely road-focussed vehicle in spite of its off-road styling cues, though there are versions of the GLA available with four-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive '4MATIC' versions simply offer the reassurance of extra grip on wet, snowy or muddy roads, however, rather than enabling the car to head onto more challenging terrain.

As you may expect from a Mercedes model line, the GLA comes with plenty of engine, gearbox and specification choices. In fact, the GLA mirrors much of what’s available in the regular Mercedes A-Class line-up, so that means used buyers get a choice of 136hp 200d and 170hp 220d diesels that are both versions of the same 2.1-litre four-cylinder engine, plus the GLA 200 which has a 156hp 1.6-litre petrol engine and the 2.0-litre, 211hp petrol GLA 250.

Those after a sportier machine can drool over the high-performance 381hp GLA 45 AMG edition too, but this manic performer sells in far fewer numbers than mainstream models so there are relatively few used examples around. If you want a relatively small car that offers a raised driving position and seriously fast acceleration, though, it could be perfect for you.

The lower-powered versions of the GLA have manual six-speed gearboxes as standard, but there aren’t many GLAs about with manual gears. Many new buyers chose to upgrade to the automatic seven-speed gearbox that’s standard on the 220d, the 250 petrol and the 45 AMG. The automatic gearbox is fitted to all 4Matic-equipped four-wheel drive GLA models, too.

If you’re looking at a GLA you’ll probably also be interested in the Mercedes SUV’s rivals, and because it’s such a fashionable ctype of car, there are lots of options. At the more upmarket end you have direct GLA rivals like the BMW X2, Audi Q3 and Range Rover Evoque, though the higher quality end of rivals from more mainstream brands like the Mazda CX-5, Seat Ateca and Peugeot 3008 demonstrate the range of alluring options.

Fortunately, BuyaCar has bags of choice right across the board, and you can use our advanced search options to seek out the perfect SUV or crossover whether you’re looking for a nearly new car or an older used model from all the major manufacturers. Meanwhile, read on for an insight into some of best used Mercedes GLA deals we have to offer, and to browse our extensive listings.

Best Mercedes GLA Class deals

There was a brand new GLA launched in 2020 and there are a number of nearly-new examples here on BuyaCar including the top-spec GLA 45S 4MATIC+ with 2,000 miles on the clock for £58,000 - which may sound high, but is a whopping £7,000 off the new price, for the lucky few with big budgets.

A more affordable £32,000 should get you into the new shape GLA 200d AMG Line Executive with fewer than 1,000 miles on the clock, which is a saving of nearly £5,000 against the new price.

However, we’re really here to celebrate the bargains available amongst the first-generation GLAs on BuyaCar, and with prices starting from around £13,000 and rising to around £35,000, with monthly payments to make these more affordable, there’s a lot of choice.

A budget of around £15,000 should get you into a 2016 200d Sport model or a 2015 220d AMG Line, while £20,000 should secure you a 2017 GLA 220d AMG Line with 20-30,000 miles on the clock.

Which Mercedes GLA deal is best for you?

There’s only one five-door body style available in the Mercedes GLA Class lineup, and it’s relatively roomy with plenty of space for passengers and their luggage. Three adults on the back seat will be a squeeze though, and more traditionally boxy SUVs are typically a bit more spacious.

Assuming you’re not in the market for the extremely high-performance AMG 45 version, that just leaves you with engine, gearbox and trim level choices.

Diesel examples outnumber petrol GLAs by around two to one, and although new diesels have become unfashionable in recent times, diesel power does make lots of sense for drivers looking to cut their fuel costs. In fact, you can expect up to 55mpg from a reasonably carefully driven diesel GLA, which is good for a car of this type.

With most having auto transmissions, the diesels are relaxing to drive too, although not the quietest or smoothest engines around. Petrol engines are smoother but less frugal, so make most sense if you don’t drive many miles. In fact, the GLA diesels were discontinued in early 2019 when the petrol range was extended with the addition of a new GLA 180 entry-model, so if you're looking at newer models, petrol is your only choice.

Whether you should choose an all-wheel drive 4MATIC GLA depends on whether you spend much time in the country, as two-wheel drive is perfectly adequate for drivers who spend most of their time in urban areas or on bigger roads. As there is a near-even split of two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models on BuyaCar both should be easy to find.

Mercedes GLA SE deals

The entry-level GLA trim grade is called SE, and the cars left the factory with 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery and air-conditioning. There’s an eight-inch media system on top of the dash for entertainment functions.

However, bear in mind that there's no sat-nav unless the car was upgraded with one of the numerous option packs Mercedes made available. You'll want to check the specification of any specific SE model you're considering carefully, therefore, to ensure you have the features you need.

Mercedes GLA AMG Line deals

The range-topping GLA AMG Line specification brings a bit of extra opulence with a comprehensive spec including leather sports seats and stainless steel pedals inside, while the exterior gets big 19-inch wheels with run-flat tyres.

Again, you’ll need to check any prospective purchase’s individual specification to see which additional extras have been fitted to the car. It’s also worth remembering the bigger wheels may look great, but the GLA rides most comfortably on the 17-inch rims that come as part of the standard SE trim. Therefore, if comfort is a high priority for you, you might want to prioritise this specification in your search.
