The Seat Ibiza is a small hatchback that packs a youthful sporty feel, especially in specifications such as FR Sport. That said, there are some much more grown up trims which prioritise comfort and and a relaxed drive over sheer sportiness. To find out about the best Seat Ibiza deals and offers on each of the different key models, keep reading.

It isn’t just how an Ibiza looks or feels that makes it a good small car - it comes with a range of frugal engines and a wide variety of standard equipment. That is a good thing, too, as this Seat has some stiff competition in the likes of the Volkswagen Polo (with which it shares some engines and other tech), Mini Hatch and Ford Fiesta.

One of the Seat’s best features is its interior. There is space in the two outer rear seats for adults to sit in relative comfort, even with a six-foot tall driver and passenger up front. Things would get tight with a third adult in the middle, but there is plenty of room for three children. Plus, the interior has plenty of storage for odds and ends and the boot is capable of swallowing 355 litres of cargo (44 litres more than the Ford Fiesta) which is large for a car of this size.

The majority of Ibiza models come with a small petrol engine - although the option of diesel was available for a short while. The petrol engines are generally very good in that they are punchy and economical and there are a range of power outputs available.

The more powerful petrol engines, such as the 1.0-litre 'TSI' producing 113hp, make the Ibiza plenty quick enough for stress-free long motorway journeys but the added power normally increases running costs a little through higher insurance premiums and fuel consumption.

The Ibiza is well equipped across the range, although if smartphone mirroring software such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a must-have for you, it is best to look at FR and Xcellence trims for pre-2019 cars. By April 2019 the entire Ibiza range included Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

When it comes to safety equipment the Ibiza matches most of its main rivals. Right from launch all models came with four airbags, emergency braking assist (which helps apply maximum braking in emergency situations without skidding) and front assist (which brings up warnings on the dashboard if the car thinks a collision with the vehicle in front is likely).

A new Ibiza starts at just over £16,000 but there are significant savings to be had by buying nearly new or used. Going used also means that you can afford to get a better specification Ibiza for your budget.

To help you pick the best option, below there is a closer look at each of the main Seat Ibiza trims (SE, SE Technology, FR, FR Sport and Xcellence) along with some of the best finance deals and offers available.

Seat Ibiza SE deals

Ibiza SE models are currently the entry level to the range but this wasn’t always the case. Originally S trim was the starting point but most people thought the extra equipment SE brought for the relatively small increase in cost was worth it, so S trim was phased out.

In 2017 standard SE equipment included 15-inch alloy wheels, a five-inch touchscreen media system (which is quite small by today’s standards) and air-conditioning. By the latter stages of 2018, a 6.5-inch touchscreen media display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility became standard, so you may want to focus on newer models if having this is important to you.

There are a number of optional extra packs that new car buyers could add to the Ibiza to get additional kit. Early SE models could come with the ‘Vision Pack Plus’, which included front and rear parking sensors along with a reversing camera - all of which make parking in tight spaces much easier.

SE Ibizas tend to be the most affordable of the range to both purchase and run (helped by qualifying for lower insurance groups). As a result they can be a great option for new drivers plus those who have a sketchy driving history which bumps up their insurance cost or people who live in high-risk postcodes.

Seat Ibiza SE Technology deals

By the end of 2018 Seat had introduced a trim called SE Technology. As the name suggests it was very similar to SE specification only with a fresh helping of extra technology. Specifically, a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen media system with voice recognition (for carrying out functions such as calling a contact on your phone) and a 3D map function for helping with route navigation.

Other extra equipment included larger 16-inch alloy wheels. These look a little more sporty than those used on SE models but don’t sacrifice much comfort, which is good as increasing the size of wheels on a car can make the ride more firm over rough tarmac, as there's more metal and less rubber between you and the road.

Considering the benefits of having a larger media display and the subtly improved styling, SE Technology is likely to be the pick of the range for drivers who want the best balance of standard equipment and value.

Seat Ibiza FR deals

FR stands for ‘Formula Racing’ which gives an indication of what FR models are all about. They come with sporty-looking 17-inch alloy wheels, dark tinted rear windows, black door mirrors and sports suspension. Thankfully the sports suspension in Ibiza models isn’t like the kind of super-firm suspension found in some sports cars, as it is still comfortable enough for everyday use on UK roads.

FR models also come with what looks like two exhaust pipes sticking out of the rear bumper. These are actually a styling trick - the exhaust is hidden away under the body. By doing this the Ibiza looks the part but doesn’t have a complex twin exhaust system which is more costly to replace or repair if required.

FR trim isn’t just about looking good, as there is additional tech included. There are full LED headlights to light the road better at night, cruise control and a rear-view mirror which automatically dims when bright light is detected on it (very helpful for when the person behind you has left their full beam headlights on).

All FR models also get sports front seats, which are designed to hold you in your seat better when driving around corners. Seat also includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel with FR trim.

If you are thinking ‘this all sounds great but I bet these FR models use lots of fuel and cost a fortune to run’, panic not, as they use the same engines as other Ibiza models, so running costs are nice and low.

Seat Ibiza FR Sport deals

Seat Ibiza FR Sport trim was introduced as an even more sporty option to FR models. It comes as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels - which are large for a car of this size - suede upholstery and digital dials. The latter replaces traditional dials with a digital screen for things such as speed and fuel level.

FR Sport models also come with dual climate control (allowing the driver and front passenger to choose different temperatures) whereas FR Ibizas did not. That has changed with newer models, as standard FR spec has gained dual climate control.

There is little doubt that FR Sport models are amongst the sportiest looking Ibizas, but the style comes at a cost. The large wheels make for a less comfortable ride and the 'microsuede' interior isn’t best suited to transporting messy kids as it doesn’t hold up so well to spills and grime.

Seat Ibiza Xcellence deals

Xcellence trim started as something aimed at the more mature driver - someone who wants plenty of equipment such as keyless entry but who doesn’t want the flashy sporty styling of the FR models.

Over the years the visual differences between Xcellence and FR models has narrowed. In fact, FR and Xcellence models now come with the same 17-inch alloy wheels. Still, if you are looking at early models from 2017, Xcellence trim is by far and away the best equipped.

Xcellence comes with a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry and starting and electric rear windows. Although all Ibizas are easy to live with, features such as these take the edge off the daily grind even more and make this small car feel surprisingly luxurious.

Seat introduced an Xcellence Lux trim a few years ago which is the top-of-the-range option but this isn’t as common as Xcellence or FR Sport models, due to its higher prices when new.
