Cheap cars with nice interiors

Fancy a car with a nice interior but don’t want to pay a premium price? Here are eight plush cars you can get for less than £15,000

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin. When you think about it, a car’s interior is far more important than the exterior styling. Sure, you want a car that looks good, but you can’t see it when you’re behind the wheel. Unless, of course, you glance at your reflection as you pass a shop window. Don’t worry, we’ve all done it.

Finding a car with a nice interior is an important consideration, whether it’s the design of the dashboard, the ambient lighting, the comfort of the seats or the quality of the materials. A Rolls-Royce will tick all of these boxes, but what if you haven’t got the budget of a high roller?

We’ve pulled together a list of cheap cars with a nice interior. All are available on BuyaCar for less than £15,000, so there’s no need to splash the cash to secure a bit of flash. All of these models offer great in-car comfort and plenty of style, so keep reading to find the best one for you.

Best cheap cars with nice interiors

1. Citroen C4 Cactus

Used deals from £6,999
Monthly finance from £153*

The Citroen C4 Cactus provides proof that choosing an affordable car doesn’t have to mean putting up with a cheap and nasty interior. It’s like a designer’s mood board, with plenty of quirky touches, such as door handles styled to look like suitcase handles and a large glovebox inspired by luggage.

You also get a pair of sofa-style front seats, which are wider than average to deliver more support and cushioning for your bottom. Opt for an early automatic version and you may even get a bench seat in the front.

The C4 Cactus was updated in 2018, with Citroen removing some of the individuality of the earlier model. That said, the seats are even more comfortable, while the clever suspension smooths out all but the worst road imperfections, so go for a newer model for maximum comfort.

2. Ford Fiesta Vignale

Used deals from £15,495
Monthly finance from £225*

It’s Britain’s most popular new car, so you’re not short of choice when going for a Ford Fiesta. The Vignale trim is a cut above the more mainstream versions, feeling every inch a upmarket supermini.

Highlights include quilted leather seats, a leather steering wheel, bespoke floor mats, illuminated cup holders, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. That's a lot of luxury for such a small and easy-to-drive machine.

It gets better, because the Fiesta Vignale even comes with heating for the seats and steering wheel. Predictably, the Vignale carries a price premium over the regular models, but prices on BuyaCar start from £225 per month, so this is still an affordable option. Are you warming to the idea of a posh Fiesta?

3. DS 3

Used deals from £6,795
Monthly finance from £134*

We like to think of the DS 3 as a French Mini. That’s to say it’s loaded with character, great fun to drive and a touch more special than more mainstream rivals. Not that it’s an expensive option: BuyaCar prices start from £134 per month.

DS, formerly a Citroen sub-brand rather than a separate company, went to great lengths to make this car stand out in a crowded market. Its smart exterior styling is complemented by a striking interior, filled with neat details and the use of upmarket materials.

There was also an array of personalisation goodies to choose from, so you’ve got to hope that you share the original owner’s taste in options and accessories. Don’t worry, they’re all tasteful - no yellow paintwork with purple seats and green dashboard trim here - so feel free to pick and choose from the broad range of used models available on BuyaCar.

4. Audi A1

Used deals from £16,495
Monthly finance from £228*

The current Audi A1 arrived in 2018, but prices have just dropped below the £15,000 mark for used models. It’s the smallest and most affordable Audi you can buy, so you get many of the benefits of owning a larger model including the badge and many of the slick in-car tech, but at a more affordable price.

Inside, the interior is smart and suitably solid, but while the quality isn’t up to the standards of more expensive Audi models, it still feels pretty plush and there’s no arguing with the level of kit. Even the entry-level Technik model comes with an impressive array of equipment.

An eight-inch touchscreen media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 10.3-inch digital instrument panel, digital radio, air-conditioning and leather steering wheel are standard across the range.

5. Mini Hatchback

Used deals from £7,965
Monthly finance from £161*

The Mini Hatchback has one of the most individual and smart interiors you’ll find in a small car. It’s inspired by the design of the original Mini, with the dashboard dominated by the circular screen in the centre. There are also retro toggle switches, a choice of different finishes and ambient lighting.

Few Minis leave the showroom in ‘naked’ form, with the original buyer able to select from a raft of personalisation options - which is what most Mini buyers do. Few of these extras increase the value of the Mini when second-hand, though, so pick a used model with plenty of options fitted and it’s kind of like getting the goodies for free.

If the standard three-door Mini is a little cramped for you, it might be worth upgrading to the five-door version. There’s a little more room in the back and your rear-seat passengers will have an easier time getting in there.

6. Volvo V40

Used deals from £10,035
Monthly finance from £190*

It can be quite difficult to stand out if you're looking for a family hatchback. The Ford Focus is the mainstream choice, while the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class tussle for supremacy as the upmarket choice. The Volkswagen Golf sits somewhere in the middle.

Which leaves the Volvo V40 as the outsider’s choice. The smart Swede has many things on its side, not least an excellent safety record, a highly efficient 'D2' diesel engine and striking, wedge-like styling.

Then there’s the interior, which is more elegant and sophisticated than rival hatchbacks. The seats are supremely comfortable, the ‘floating’ centre console is a nice touch, and the level of quality is good for this type of car. Standing out from the crowd starts from as little as £190 per month, so it's good value, too.

7. Peugeot 3008

Used deals from £16,678
Monthly finance from £244*

Launched in 2016, the Peugeot 3008 feels like an upmarket SUV with a mainstream price tag. The clues are on the outside, with bold styling that sets the 3008 apart from its many rivals in the family SUV market.

If you think the outside is striking, wait until you see the inside. Peugeot’s 'i-Cockpit' dashboard design features a fully customisable 12.3-inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel, which can be configured in many different ways.

Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a case of form over function. There’s enough room for five people, while the 591-litre boot is considerably larger than that of the Nissan Qashqai. You could spend more on a car with an upmarket badge, but what’s the point when the 3008 looks and feels this good?

8. Renault Clio

Renault Clio interior

Used deals from £12,995
Monthly finance from £190*

Don’t judge a book by its cover, because while the new Renault Clio might look similar to the old one, it actually represents a comprehensive overhaul of this popular supermini. Faults are few and far between - we’d be nitpicking if we pointed anything particular out.

The interior is one of its strongest points, with a level of quality and the use of soft-touch materials to rival pricey rivals like the Audi A1 and Volkswagen Polo. All models except the entry-level Play get a smart 9.3-inch touchscreen media system in the centre of the dashboard.

This latest version was introduced in 2019, but used prices have dropped as low as £11,000. Any Clio registered on or after 18 December 2019 will be covered by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, too. Now you’re definitely sitting comfortably.
