Black, grey or cream. Seemingly the vast majority of car interiors feature an interior dominated by one of these three low-key colours. But if you want to make a bit of a statement or go for a more sporty vibe, then red can be a far more attention-grabbing option.

There’s a surprising amount of choice if you want a car with a red interior, too. So whether you want a sporty SUV, a smart saloon or an everyday family hatchback - all with a splash of colour - there’s a car with a smart red interior out there waiting for you.

Best cars with a red interior

1. Porsche Macan

Used deals from £29,465
Monthly finance from £527*

The red interior options on the Porsche Macan SUV only cover the entirety of the seats if you can stretch to the top-end GTS and Turbo models. The more basic trim levels offer red upholstery too, but only for the seatbacks and centre panels.

Either way, the upmarket cabin looks striking as it is, and if you want to go all out, you can get red door panels and dashboard to really brighten things up. With that much red on the inside, though, it might be wise to go for a low-key contrasting colour on the outside.

2. BMW 3 Series

Used deals from £12,350
Monthly finance from £233*

The BMW 3 Series range is a very broad one, with countless trim and engine options, and that’s before you start thinking about interior colour choices.

However, one of the most striking interiors available for the BMW 3 Series is the Extended Fiona Red leather. This is a rich, and supple Merino leather from the BMW ‘Individual’ range – the carmaker’s name for its range of bespoke options.

The ‘extended’ bit refers to the fact that the leather trim is extended to the doors and significant parts of the dashboard. It’s a true feast of red leather.

3. Lexus NX F Sport

Used deals from £23,490
Monthly finance from £375*

The Lexus NX features a sharply creased exterior design and is Lexus’s medium-sized SUV, a rival for the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. It's an upmarket model that prioritises comfort and style over sportiness or off-road ability.

Should you pick one in F Sport trim, you’ll be treated to attractively designed and supportive deep red leather seats. Not only do these look good, but they’re also genuinely high quality in feel, with hand-sewn stitching details.

4. Honda Civic Type R

Used deals from £21,950
Monthly finance from £426*

The Honda Civic Type R is one of the most extroverted-looking high-performance hatchbacks around. With its huge air vents and in-your-face rear wing, it makes no secret of its sporty nature. Thankfully, it also has enough power to back up the looks.

The same is true inside, especially the race-inspired bucket seats. These are finished in racy bright red cloth, and hug you tight to provide plenty of lateral support for enthusiastic driving along twisty roads or race circuits. For a bit of extra red sportiness, there are further flashes of red trim on the dashboard and centre console.

5. Volkswagen Golf

Used deals from £16,750
Monthly finance from £302*

The latest version of the VW Golf features red in its interior in an unusual way. This isn’t bright red cloth or leather, but part of the car’s ambient lighting and even seat fabric, if you go for the sporty GTI version.

Choose the red theme in the latest, eighth-generation VW Golf and you get red strip lighting and pool lighting, plus a red-themed touchscreen media system display and even red as the dominant colour on the digital driver’s display, which replaces conventional dials.

6. Jaguar XE

Used deals from £16,313
Monthly finance from £279*

The XE is Jaguar’s answer to the BMW 3 Series and, like the 3 Series, you can get red leather upholstery to jazz up the interior. Unlike the 3 Series, however, Jaguar’s interior trim choices are a little bit more limited, so if you opt for the rather lovely Mars Red upholstery, the rest of the interior fixtures and fittings will largely be a commendably restrained black.

Older Jaguar XE models sometimes feature a more dramatic red-and-black leather combination on Sport-spec cars, and the red in this case is somewhat brighter than on Mars Red interiors.

7. Porsche 718 Boxster

Used deals from £38,333
Monthly finance from £494*

Few car interiors are quite as Red with a capital R as the interior of the Porsche Boxster when specified with Bordeaux Red leather. And if you’ve specified the extended red package (a £2500 option for new models), pretty much anything you can think of is a deep wine red colour.

As well as the seats, the Bordeaux Red also features on the doors, the dashboard, the carpets and even the steering wheel. If you want maximum red in your car's interior, the Boxster is a great option to consider.

8. Volkswagen T-Roc

Used deals from £17,782
Monthly finance from £258*

The second Volkswagen to feature in this list, the VW T-Roc also features a red interior theme in an unusual way. With the T-Roc crossover SUV, one of the interior options is dashboard and door panels that echo the car’s exterior colour. So if you go for a bright red exterior, you can have a splash of that to liven up the inside of your T-Roc, too.

Bands of bright red can be found around the centre console, on stripes on the seats and across the top of the doors and dashboard - other colours available include orange, blue and yellow.
