Fancy a car with a fridge but can’t afford a Rolls-Royce? Here are some affordable ways to keep your food and drinks cool when it's warm

You don’t need to hire a luxury limo to find a car with a fridge. Sure, you’re more likely to find a champagne cooler or fridge in a Bentley or Rolls-Royce, but keeping your food and drinks cool on the move isn’t the preserve of the rich and famous.

As our list of the best cars with fridges reveals, chilling out needn’t come with a price tag to make you feel hot under the collar. We’ve got everything from affordable family cars to luxury SUVs, with a campervan thrown in for good measure.

If you can’t find a car with a built-in fridge, either as standard on via the options list, it’s worth getting a car with a chilled glovebox. These are fed with air from the air-conditioning and are ideal for keeping your drinks and chocolate bars on a warm day. The car will provide them with a steady supply of cool air while the car's on and the air-conditioning is running.

However, we can do better than that here, with everything from space for cooling 1.5-litre bottles to a 42-litre cool box in one of the vehicles below. Short of carrying your household refrigerator in the boot, these are some of the best cars with fridges. Stay cool out there.

1. Peugeot 3008

Used deals from £13,950
Monthly finance from £240*

Few family SUVs offer the Peugeot 3008’s blend of sharp styling, upmarket interior and practicality. Launched in 2016, the 3008 has been on sale long enough for it to represent incredible value for money on the used market; prices start from less than the cost of a new Ford Fiesta.

All versions come with a front centre storage compartment offering 11 litres of space under the armrest. This cooled area is deep enough to accommodate a 1.5-litre bottle, with each door pocket able to carry the same size of bottle. There are two cup holders in the front and a further two in the back.

2. Land Rover Discovery

Used deals from £30,000
Monthly finance from £456*

The current Land Rover Discovery is one of the coolest SUVs on the planet - and it’s also pretty good at keeping your drinks cool. A front centre console cooler compartment is available as an option across the range and is ideal for carrying four drinks in the upright position. It comes as part of the Climate Comfort pack on the HSE model or the Versatile Climate Comfort pack on the SE, Landmark and HSE models.

Also look out for cars with the optional centre armrest cooler/warmer for the back seats. It comes with a leather-covered top and is held in place by the centre seat belt and powered from the rear auxiliary socket. Perfect for longer road trips with the family.

3. Skoda Kodiaq

Used deals from £17,980
Monthly finance from £283*

Why have one glovebox when you can have two? The Skoda Kodiaq features two storage compartments on the passenger side, one of which can be air-conditioned to keep drinks and chocolate bars cool on a hot day.

The Kodiaq can also be equipped with a 15-litre thermo-electric cooling box. This sits in the middle of the rear bench and can be used to cool refreshments on a long journey or chilled items on the way back from a trip to the supermarket. Flick a switch and it will warm up snacks and keep them at your desired temperature, too.

4. Kia Carens

Used deals from £9,499
Monthly finance from £0*

On sale from 2013 until 2019, the Kia Carens is a reliable, practical and spacious family MPV. It’s all about the ‘sevens’, with the Carens offering seven-seat versatility and the reassurance of a seven-year warranty. This means that a late model should be covered until 2026.

The Carens also features a cooled glovebox offering eight litres of storage, while you’ll also find a lidded storage compartment and two cup holders between the front seats. Speaking of keeping things cool, the second row features manually retractable blinds for protection from the sun, too.

5. Volvo XC90

Used deals Limited stock

Unfortunately, you cannot buy the Volvo XC90 Excellence in the UK. Volvo claims it offers ‘the opulence of a first-class lounge’, with features including two individual rear seats with massage and ventilation functions, plus a built-in drinks cooler with illuminated cup holders. You even get a pair of crystal glasses.

However, while the UK-spec XC90 isn’t quite as opulent, you do get an air-conditioned glovebox as part of the car’s four-zone climate control system. Passengers in the third row get their own air-conditioning settings, but it might be a stretch to reach the glovebox. You can add your own crystal glasses.

6. Range Rover

Used deals from £28,990
Monthly finance from £1,206*

In addition to the optional front centre cooler compartment, the outgoing Range Rover (2013-2021) can be equipped with a front centre refrigerator compartment. It can accommodate up to four 500ml bottles and maintain them at a temperature of 5ºC. There’s even a rapid cool function for when you’re in a hurry.

It gets better, because the Range Rover is also available with an optional centre armrest cooler/warmer for the back seats. It’s powered by an auxiliary socket and can chill or warm up your snacks, depending on what you’re carrying.

7. Audi Q7

Used deals from £27,992
Monthly finance from £0*

The Audi Q7 is another car that can keep things cool with a refrigerated glove box - whether you're looking to keep a couple of drinks chilled before going for a walk in the sun or for stopping your chocolate stash from melting. Do bear in mind, though, that the coolbox will only work when the air-conditioning system is delivering cold air.

In most cases, you’ll see a rotary dial in the glovebox. Turn it one way to turn it on, then turn it the other way to switch it off. Most handbooks advise you to close the dial when the air-conditioning is delivering warm air; opening the glovebox to discover a pool of melted chocolate isn’t a good thing. Well, not unless you have some marshmallows to hand…

The current California was updated in 2019 (pictured above), is now better than ever. Opt for the Ocean edition and you get a 42-litre cool/warm box complete with a removable basket.
