Which used Hyundai i20 should you buy?
The Hyundai i20 is available with two 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines and a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes. You can choose between 101PS or 122PS power outputs, but both engines are quiet, efficient and enjoyable to use.
There’s also the high-performance Hyundai i20 N, which is a hot hatchback similar to the Ford Fiesta ST. It has a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with more than 203PS, so it’s very fast and fun to drive, with special suspension to make it handle corners better.
One key selling point of the Hyundai i20 is the five-year warranty that comes with the car. This means that even if you buy a model that is one or two years old, it will still have cover left over from the first owner.

What used Hyundai i20 trim levels are available?
The Hyundai i20 is offered with a number of different trim levels. Read as we assess the main attrubutes of the SE Connect, Premium, N Line and Ultimate Specifications, all well as the Hyundai i20 N.

Hyundai i20 N Line
The Hyundai i20 N Line trim is the only version you can get with the 122PS 1.0-litre petrol. It has a sportier look than other models in the range, as illustrated in the equipment highlights below, and is arguably the most enjoyable variant to drive, outside of the Hyundai i20 N hot hatch.
- Unique 17-inch alloy wheels
- Black door mirrors
- Different interior trim
- Keyless entry
Hyundai i20 Ultimate
The Hyundai i20 Ultimate is similarly priced to the Hyundai i20 N Line model, but has more of a focus on luxury rather than sportiness. This version has all the kit found on lesser models in the range, plus other unique features, including:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Special black and grey interior
- Bose stereo
- Wireless mobile phone charging
- Blind spot monitoring
- Lane following assist
Hyundai i20 N
The Hyundai i20 N isn’t to be confused with the Hyundai i20 N Line, as this is a very different car to the normal Hyundai i20. It has a powerful 1.6-litre petrol engine with more than 203PS, as well as completely different suspension that makes it much more fun to drive (but less comfortable). It adds to the kit of top-end models with:
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Special Pirelli tyres
- Sport exhaust
- N badging
- Part-leather seats
- Optional two-tone paint
- Optional Bose stereo
Is a used Hyundai i20 a good buy?
The Hyundai i20 is an alternative to small cars such as the Volkswagen Polo and huge-selling Ford Fiesta.
It’s practical for its size, with a good amount of space inside for passengers and a big boot considering its dimensions.
The interior isn’t quite as smart as the exterior, as there are some hard plastics that look a bit cheap, but it’s well equipped, as our guide has demonstrated.
Reliable, well built, tastefully designed and decent to drive, it makes a thoroughly appealing used purchase.
