Kia Sportage dimensions: exterior

When it comes to exterior dimensions, the Kia Sportage sits bang in the middle, neither too big nor too small. Meanwhile, it’s actually on the low side, so should pass under fixed security barriers with ease.
The Kia Sportage is a roomy car, too, with a reasonable 2670mm between the front and rear wheels (called the wheelbase).

Kia Sportage boot space

The difference in boot sizes between petrol and diesel-powered models isn’t enough to cause concern. Instead, the fact that with the seats down, the boot is up to 50 litres smaller than average is significant. On the other hand, how a boot is shaped (the Sportage’s is good in this respect and has a low load lip) is an equally important consideration.

Kia Sportage dimensions: interior

The Sportage hits the bull’s eye again, offering reasonable levels of headroom but good levels of front and rear legroom so all but the very tallest occupants should be comfortable.

Kia Sportage towing capacity

The Sportage’s maximum towing capacity of 2200kg is seriously impressive and leaves a comfortable margin for most towing requirements. Just be mindful of its minimum capacity, which excludes most larger family caravans, for example.

Kia Sportage weight

At its heaviest, the Sportage exceeds the average SUV in its class by 80kg, and the most portly Mazda CX-5, for example, by a considerable 160kg. It helps explain why the Sportage is less enjoyable than the Mazda on twisty roads.

Kia Sportage fuel tank

The Sportage’s relatively large fuel tank makes the model a good, long-distance cruiser. Depending on the variant, petrol versions will achieve around 600 miles to a tank, and diesel versions around 740, at least according to official figures.
