Which used Mazda CX-5 should you buy?
The Mazda CX-5 is a medium-sized SUV that debuted in 2012, proving good to drive and featuring curvaceous, sporty looks to differentiate it from the typically boxy appearance of rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai or the popular Volkswagen Tiguan.
A second-generation model arrived in 2017 which offered an update on the same winning formula, proving just as enjoyable to drive as its predecessor, but with a noticeable upgrade to the interior fit and finish.
With excellent standard equipment at every trim level, there’s really a lot to like about the Mazda CX-5, especially if you’re planning to save a packet by getting a nearly new or used version.
There’s only one body style in the Mazda CX-5 line-up, so there’s no decision required there. The choices you have to make consist of whether you want a petrol or diesel engine, how much power you want, whether to go for two- or four-wheel drive and which gearbox and trim level works best for you.
Mild-hybrid assistance is also now available on newer models.

What used Mazda CX-5 trim levels are available?
Mazda offers relatively few trim levels, so picking the most suitable for you is a simple task. We’ve highlighted the three key trim levels below, along with an overview of what comes with each, to help you on your way.
Sat-nav (and Android Auto / Apple CarPlay compatibility) is offered with later cars. If you’re looking at a pre-2020 model, the three main trim levels are the same, but there’s also a Nav version of each, which, as the name suggests, adds sat-nav to the kit list.

Is a used Mazda CX-5 a good buy?
Whichever generation you pick, the Mazda CX-5 is one of the best-driving SUVs around with surprising agility for its size.
Unlike its typically more ponderous rivals, it has a relatively roll-free body when taking corners at speed and features precise steering. The plush, comfortable suspension makes light work of the worst that British roads can throw at it.
The Mazda CX-5 is also quiet and comfortable to travel in, especially the second-generation model with its enhanced interior trim.
There is no shortage of room for passengers in the front, although legroom in the rear is adequate rather than generous. The boot space suffers against some of its boxier-looking rivals, too, but there’s sufficient room for the average family’s kit.
