Mini Countryman dimensions: exterior

No doubt about it, the Mini Countryman is one of the smaller SUVs you can buy. Still, that’s not a problem if you crave the extra practicality an SUV offers over a hatchback. It’ll certainly fit on most driveways with space for another car, as well comfortably slip into on-street parking bays. However, if you’re looking to lord it over other road users, you’ll be disappointed.

Perhaps its most telling dimension is its wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels). It’s over 70mm shorter than average, meaning interior space is restricted.

Mini Countryman boot space

The Countryman’s boot is smaller than many crossovers with just a 350-litre capacity but if you buy it to gain additional space over, for example, a Mini Hatchback, you won’t be disappointed.

Generous front legroom (there’s 40mm more here than the average in the class) belies the Countryman’s compact dimensions. The sting in the tail is 80mm less legroom in the rear which makes it a squeeze for adults.

Mini Countryman towing capacity

The Countryman hasn’t the weight or pulling power to make it a great towcar so a maximum limit of 1200kg is only to be expected. Still there’s a reasonable allowance there for a small caravan or trailer tent.

Mini Countryman weight

The Countryman is no heavyweight, which partly explains why it’s such fun to drive (if not quite as much fun as the Mini hatch).

Mini Countryman fuel tank capacity

A reasonably large fuel tank allied to decent economy means that according to official figures, you’ll be able to travel around 500 miles in petrol models and 700 miles in diesels. That makes the Mini a good long-distance tourer.

Mini Countryman turning circle

It’s a surprise to find the Mini’s turning circle is larger than average. On the other hand, its compact dimensions mean it’ll be able to take most tight spots in its stride.
