Which used Peugeot 5008 should you buy?
The second-generation Peugeot 5008 from 2017 was a bit of a departure from the original car it replaced. While the first-gen Peugeot 5008 was a boxy MPV, its successor was a higher-riding SUV and much more stylish.
For driving around town, the peppy 1.2-litre petrol engine is a decent choice, although if you venture further afield on longer drives or on motorway jaunts, the 1.5-litre diesel is a more sensible pick.
If you’d prefer a bit more muscle and are okay with higher running costs, the 2.0-litre diesel is a worthy shout, too. Don’t expect to find many Peugeot 5008s with the 1.6-litre petrol engine, though: while it offers the strongest performance, it comes at the cost of average fuel economy and high annual tax bills due to its steeper CO2 emissions.
While some trim and engine combinations are harder to find than others (don’t expect to find too many 1.6-litre petrol or entry-level Active cars, for instance), there’s a decent selection of Peugeot 5008 models to choose from.

What used Peugeot 5008 trim levels are available?
Equipment-wise, the Peugeot 5008 is nicely specified across the board, with even the entry-level Active cars coming as standard with a decent amount of equipment.
We reckon the mid-range Peugeot 5008 Allure models represent the sweet spot in the range, as they include a few family-friendly touches like fold-out tables, and come with more safety tech than the Peugeot 5008 Active versions.
The plusher Peugeot 5008 GT Line and Peugeot 5008 GT models are better equipped still, but carry a higher premium.
Read on for the key details you need to know about each of the different Peugeot 5008 variants.
Peugeot 5008 Active
Initially, the most affordable versions when new were the Peugeot 5008 Active models, and despite their entry-level billing, they were decently equipped, with some useful safety features. Highlights included:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Front foglights
- Climate control
- Rear parking sensors
- Automatic windscreen wipers
- Digital radio
- Eight-inch touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Lane departure warning
Peugeot 5008 Active Premium
When the car was facelifted in 2020, the base trim was replaced with the Peugeot 5008 Active Premium spec. Much of the same equipment from the old Peugeot 5008 Active was carried over, although there were some interesting additions, including:
- Digital instrument display
- Electrically folding wing mirrors
- Lane keep assist
Peugeot 5008 Allure
On mid-range Peugeot 5008 Allure models, there are a few more mod cons, as detailed below. A 2020 facelift brought some changes to the spec list, with some standard features added, and some removed.
- Reversing camera
- Built-in sat-nav
- Seat-back tables for rear passengers (until 2020)
- Lane keep assist
- Driver drowsiness monitor
- 10-inch touchscreen (from 2020 on)
Peugeot 5008 Allure Premium
Introduced as part of the 2020 facelift, Peugeot 5008 Allure Premium models built upon the Allure trim’s spec with some desirable features. The seat-back tables that were once standard on the Peugeot 5008 Allure cars were now available out of the box at this level.
- Keyless entry
- Ambient interior lighting
- Seat-back tables
Peugeot 5008 GT Line
The Peugeot 5008 GT Line trim injected a subtly sporty look and feel into the line-up, with more aggressive styling and other visual flourishes, as well as some tech upgrades.
- Redesigned front and rear bumpers
- Twin exhaust set-up
- Digital instrument display
- Self-levelling LED headlights
- Wireless charging tray for smartphones
Peugeot 5008 GT Line Premium
The Peugeot 5008 GT Line Premium models were mostly the same as the standard Peugeot 5008 GT Line cars equipment-wise, bar a handful of additions, including:
- Keyless start
- Powered tailgate
- Heated seats
Peugeot 5008 GT
Range-topping Peugeot 5008 GT models came with similar amounts of equipment as the Peugeot 5008 GT Line cars, although they did introduce a few new items (below). To help differentiate the Peugeot 5008 GT models from the Peugeot 5008 GT Line cars visually, the range-toppers get wheelarch extensions and a unique two-tone alloy wheel design.
- Adaptive cruise control
- Keyless entry
- Panoramic sunroof
- Heated front sears (until 2020)
Peugeot 5008 GT Premium
The Peugeot 5008 GT Premium trim was introduced in 2020, and it was the spec of choice for buyers who wanted the plushest-possible version. It retained all of the features from the Peugeot 5008 GT, and introduced even more creature comforts.
- Heated front seats
- Upgraded sound system
- 360-degree parking camera
Is a used Peugeot 5008 a good buy?
The Peugeot 5008 is a versatile, nicely-rounded seven-seater that is definitely worth shortlisting if you’re after a practical family car.
It helps, too, that all versions came with a seven-seater layout as standard. In contrast, some alternatives, such as the Skoda Kodiaq, are available with five-seater and seven-seater configurations, depending on the model.
There’s plenty of interior space, and while the boot is on the small side when all seven seats are in use, the luggage volume expands to a handy amount when you fold the two third-row seats down.
It helps, too, that the Peugeot 5008 feels a lot more upmarket inside compared with its predecessor, which in combination with the well-judged ride quality and good noise insulation makes it comfortable on longer drives.
