If you're looking for a fresh new van to keep your business running smoothly, you don't need to concern yourself with the high prices attached to brand new vans. It might well be worth your time to take a look at what's available on the used van market instead.

That's not to say you'll be replacing your tired old van with something similarly well-used, though. Some of the best van deals currently available on BuyaCar are those on nearly new models.

A 2021 van with less than 100 miles on the clock will look, feel and drive like a brand new model, but it could cost thousands of pounds less to buy or finance. But it's not only savings on the purchase that will be of interest, newer models are more fuel efficient than previous generations of vans, too, so you can expect to save money on fuel and road tax rates.

A nearly new or pre-registered van could be your most important investment of the year, and the best news is a purchase made through BuyaCar will be delivered straight to your door, while you'll also benefit from a 14-day money-back guarantee if you change your mind.

Nearly new vans for sale

1. Citroen Berlingo Van

Citroen Berlingo list price from £22,230
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Saving a few thousand pounds on a small but comfortable and hugely capable Citroen Berlingo Van might be exactly the deal that you're looking for. The cabin benefits from a number of convenience features found in the Berlingo passenger model, which helps it to feel like a car from behind the wheel.

In terms of load space, the Berlingo Van can haul loads from 667kg to over a tonne, while some used models will be fitted with a sensor to indicate if you're carrying too much. The Berlingo comes in either M or XL model sizes, offering 3.3 or 3.8 cubic metres of cargo space respectively, XL models measure 350mm longer and also feature a pair of sliding doors - one either side.

The most basic Berlingo X models are two-seater vehicles, while Worker, Enterprise and Driver spec add an extra seat and the ability to fold both passenger seats down to offer space for longer objects in the back if required.

2. Vauxhall Vivaro

Vauxhall Vivaro list price from £27,128
BuyaCar price from £19,500
Monthly finance from £591*

The Vauxhall Vivaro is a medium-size van that's made in Britain, but shares the majority of its engineering with the Citroen Dispatch, Peugeot Expert and Toyota Proace, so if you've driven any of the others before, the Vivaro is likely to feel pretty familiar. Other rivals of a similar size include the immensely popular Ford Transit Custom and Volkswagen Transporter.

This latest model has been on sale since 2019, so it still feels modern on the inside, and like the Berlingo above, the Vivaro is available in two sizes: L1 and L2, while a five-seater double cab version is also an option.

One of the interesting selling points of the Vivaro is the chance to go electric. The Vivaro-e is powered exclusively by an electric motor, and could stretch to up to 200 miles per charge if you opt for the larger 75kWh battery.

3. Ford Transit Custom

Ford Transit Custom list price from £31,256
BuyaCar price Limited stock

We can find so many reasons why the Ford Transit Custom is one of the most popular vans on the market. It seems to hit the sweet spot between capacity and manoeuvrability, while it also boasts one of the more upmarket interiors available in a van.

Mid-range Trend models feature Ford's high-end touchscreen media system with Bluetooth, cruise control and voice control, while top-end Limited spec includes air-conditioning and heated seats among other additions.

There are plenty of opportunities to find a Transit Custom to suit your needs, too, with four variations of shape and size available. Both of the L1 and L2 body lengths can be matched with either the standard H1 or taller H2 roof height, with either three or five seats.

4. Volkswagen Transporter

Volkswagen Transporter list price from £30,720
BuyaCar price Limited stock

The Volkswagen Transporter is one of the few mid-size vans on the market that comes close to competing with the Transit Custom as an all-round package. It showcases all of the quality that VW cars are known for. The latest T6.1 version that's been on sale since 2019 is also one of the most modern-feeling and high-tech vans you can buy.

In many ways the Transporter feels like a VW passenger car inside. The media system is the same as you'd find in a Tiguan, and many other convenience features such as air-conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel are present, too.

Despite the elements of comfort though, the Transporter is still a van designed to be hard-wearing, with tough materials capable of withstanding plenty of abuse. In terms of capacity, a choice of two lengths, three roof heights and four gross vehicle weights mean there is plenty of variety on offer, with payloads of between 772kg and 1,309kg.

5. Vauxhall Combo Cargo

Vauxhall Combo Cargo list price from £21,343
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Like the Vivaro, the Vauxhall Combo Van shares mechanical parts with rivals from Citroen, Peugeot and Toyota. It's similar in size to the Citroen Berlingo, but it offers more cargo space than the previous-generation Combo, with a low-lying floor for easy packing, and a clever indicator to let you know when you're at full weight capacity.

Much like the Berlingo, the Combo is available in two lengths: L1 and L2, the Crew version is offered with L2 models, and there is even a four-wheel-drive variant if you need it.

Being a smaller van, the Combo is likely to appeal to drivers looking for a more manoeuvrable model, and it caters well to those looking for a stress-free driving experience. Alongside the eight-inch media system with sat-nav, models with the parking pack include front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and a blind-spot camera.
