Ford has long been one of Britain’s most popular car brands, and with good reason. There has been a long line of affordable, practical and desirable cars to wear the infamous blue oval over the years, and the brand continues to follow this simple yet effective formula.

While so-called ‘Fast Fords’ have proven on numerous occasions that the brand has the ability to build a truly desirable performance-oriented car, their more typical day-to-day models such as the Fiesta and Focus remain two of the best selling cars in Britain. With hatchbacks, saloons, MPVs, SUVs, pick-ups and even a supercar to choose from, the Ford range is so broad that there is almost quite literally a model for every need.

Thanks to this vastness, if you’re looking for practical family transport in the used car market, it’s hard to ignore the mainstream Ford models as they offer excellent value. Almost without exception they are a pleasure to drive, comfortable and economical, as well as being well-equipped with great phone connectivity and good safety scores.

Read on for our overview of the key players in the Ford lineup, and check out the excellent deals on offer from this long-established and much-loved brand.

2021 Ford PCP deals

Best Ford Fiesta finance deals

The latest version of the Fiesta, Britain’s most popular supermini, does everything you’d expect and does it very well. It looks classy, it’s comfortable and quiet while being entertaining to drive, and its high-tech engines are impressively frugal.

Our favourite engines are the 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoosts which come with power outputs between 100hp and 140hp, but you can also get a punchy and super-frugal 1.5-litre diesel engine, which would be the best choice if you cover lots of miles. Apart from being great to drive, the Fiesta’s cabin is one of its highlights. It’s stylish and of a high enough quality to worry a Volkswagen Polo. An eight-inch tablet-style touchscreen media system is also now included on all models.

There’s a wide range of trim levels, including Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line, ST-Line X and the luxury flagship, Vignale. All models have a decent level of kit with air-conditioning, remote locking, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Titanium spec gives you cruise control and climate control among the luxuries, while the range-topping Vignale gives you a panoramic sunroof and quilted leather seats.

With so much choice and availability, it pays to work out which model you want before shopping around.

Best Ford Focus finance deals

The Ford Focus may be a common sight on UK roads, but there’s nothing ordinary about the way it performs. The latest version of Ford’s family favourite combines fun and sporty driving characteristics with a comfortable cabin, an array of technology, and the latest safety systems. and its carefully honed lines have plenty of kerbside appeal too.

Engines start with the same 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol range that’s found in the Fiesta, with a bigger 1.5-litre version available if you need a bit more punch. You can get 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesels, and there’s a slick eight-speed automatic gearbox on offer too.

The entry-level Zetec has comprehensive levels of kit, while the Titanium and Vignale add more luxuries. Other desirable alternatives include the sporty ST-Line, and the ST hot hatchback, or you could choose the Active trim level with its SUV-inspired rugged bodystyling.

Best Ford Mondeo finance deals

Once upon a time, the Ford Mondeo was one of the most popular cars on the road. Now, though, largely thanks to company car drivers increasingly demanding posher badges, such as the Audi A4 or Mercedes C-Class, and everyone else seeming to want an SUV or crossover, sales of new Mondeos are scheduled to end next year.

Still, the Mondeo is an exceptionally competent car, and low interest in it means there are some truly fantastic used car offers around for buyers who want comfort, safety and affordability in a decent-sized package.

There’s a wide range of engine choices, and plenty of trim levels along the familiar Ford theme - so Zetec, Titanium Edition, ST-Line Edition and Vignale. Even the Zetec gets an eight-inch media system, with sat-nav and dual-zone climate control, while Titanium gets electric leather seats. ST Line, meanwhile, offers a sporty setup and 18-inch alloys, while the Vignale is a true luxury model with quilted leather upholstery and LED headlamps among its standout features.

Best Ford EcoSport finance deals

Ford Ecosport

The Ford EcoSport is Ford’s answer to compact SUV rivals like the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. Like its rivals, it uses a small 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol or 1.5-litre diesel hatchback engine to keep costs down. Don’t expect racy performance from any of these, but the higher-powered versions offer respectable acceleration levels for a car of this type. Pick a diesel and you could get over 50mpg if you drive gently, too.

For those looking for a laid back crossover, the EcoSport is undemanding to drive and comfortable and spacious to sit in. The boot is reasonably practical, too, but watch out for the side-hinged rear door which can be awkward in a tight parking space.

The latest EcoSport line-up comes in familiar Zetec, Titanium and ST-Line trim levels, and even the basic models get air-conditioning and a Sync 3 eight-inch touchscreen media system with smartphone connectivity.

Best Ford Puma finance deals

The latest addition to Ford’s SUV lineup is the Puma. This crossover - not to be confused with the 90s coupe of the same name - joined the Ford range in 2019 and has proved to be a big hit with customers.

Value for money, overall practicality and a surprisingly fun driving experience have all helped the Puma to enjoy strong sales - meaning there are now an increasing amount finding their way onto the used market at some tempting prices.

Underneath, the Puma is based on the Fiesta’s running gear so should prove cheap to run and pretty reliable, too. In regards to on-board tech, every model gets an eight-inch touchscreen, FordPass Connect online services, wireless phone charging and cruise control.

Best Ford Kuga finance deals

The Ford Kuga is a popular SUV that competes against the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Kodiaq and Seat Ateca. As you’d expect from a Ford family car it’s practical and affordable when it comes to running costs, too.

The latest Kuga comes with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines and, as is increasingly happening with more and more Ford models, you can also opt for a hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version.

The plug-in hybrid Kuga has a claimed fuel economy of 202mpg. While this may seem fantastic to most people, especially long-distance drivers, remember that PHEVs come with their own pros and cons which could significantly affect this figure.
Kuga trim levels kick off with Zetec, and rise through Titanium, ST-Line, ST-Line X and Vignale.

Best Ford C-Max finance deals

Ford C-Max front three quarters view

The Ford C-Max is a compact people-carrier or MPV that’s based on the underpinnings of its sister-model, the Focus, so you won’t be surprised to hear it shares many of the same advantages. It’s a bit taller and heavier than a Focus hatch, and while it’s not quite as sporty and responsive on the road, the shared chassis does mean the C-Max is still one of the most engaging smaller MPVs to drive. The ride is a little firmer than in some rivals, for example, but in return the Ford doesn’t lean unduly in corners and you can steer it accurately and confidently around bends.

If you’re looking at an MPV purely for practical reasons, the C-Max offers lots of head and legroom for three passengers in the rear, as well as a practical 432-litre boot Take the rear seats out, and this increases to a whopping 1,684 litres.

The C-Max takes its engines from the Focus line-up too, including the efficient EcoBoost petrol options and a 1.5-litre diesel offering almost 50mpg. There are only three trim levels currently offered - Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X. All get alloy wheels, air-conditioning and Sync voice recognition, the Titanium adds an eight-inch touchscreen media system, and the Titanium X includes a panoramic roof and half-leather trim.

Best Ford S-Max finance deals

If you’re looking for a family-sized people carrier, the Ford S-Max is hard to beat, especially if you enjoy driving. In spite of its high roof and seven-seat capacity, the S-Max offers relatively nimble handling with responsive steering and a less wallowy ride than anything short of the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.

There’s a great range of petrol and diesel engine choices too, with up to 210hp on offer from the latest diesel lineup. Even the latest 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol models pack a surprising punch. Four-wheel drive is also an option if you want to tow or live up a mountain track.

The S-Max is fantastically roomy for a family of five, with space for three baby seats across the second row. The third row of seats is good for kids too, but less so for adults as leg and headroom is limited.

The range kicks off with the Zetec trim, which has pretty much all you could want from a family car, including an eight-inch touchscreen media system, dual-zone climate control and all-round parking sensors. Titanium adds sat-nav, auto wipers and cruise control, while ST-Line gives you sports suspension and flashy 18-inch alloys. Once again the Vignale trim takes things above and beyond with quilted leather, electric seats and digital speed dials.

Best Ford Galaxy finance deals

The Ford Galaxy is arguably the more sensible and subdued of the Ford MPV range. While it doesn’t focus on driving excitement or ravishing looks - that said, it is perfectly easy on the eye - it will serve a large family with ease, exactly as intended.

Seven seats, huge amounts of space, a generous amount of technology and good quality materials are what will greet you as you step into the Galaxy. All trim levels come with the Sync 3 media system, front and rear parking sensors, sports seats, power-folding door mirrors, dual-zone air conditioning and 17-inch alloy wheels.

There are petrol, diesel and hybrid options all available but diesel is currently the most common among used models. All diesels options should return over 40mpg pretty easily.
