The Nissan Qashqai is a mid-sized SUV designed to appeal to families and those who want a practical and high-tech daily car. Here we focus on the dimensions figures, and you can read more about it in our full Nissan Qashqai review and buying guide here.

Alternatives to the Qashqai include models such as the Peugeot 3008, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4 and Skoda Karoq. There are plenty of models that are of a similar size and price, and as we’ll see below, the Qashqai is a bit less practical than many of them.

This is one of British motorists' favourite cars of its type, especially as there are loads of versions to choose from including both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models that bring low running costs and relaxing, quiet driving on electric power.

Read on to find out more about the Nissan Qashqai’s dimensions, boot space and weight, along with its towing capacity.

Nissan Qashqai dimensions

The Nissan Qashqai is 4,425mm long, so it’s in between the Peugeot 3008 and Skoda Karoq in terms of size, and with the mirrors folded it’s 1,835mm wide. That means it’s a tiny bit narrower than the Peugeot and Skoda, but not by much.

It’s taller than those models, though - at 1,625mm. This means it’s shorter than a Ford Kuga, though. Models with larger alloy wheels may be a little bit taller overall, but it won’t make much difference and height restrictors won’t be an issue.

It’s not the roomiest car in its class in terms of passenger space, however - the Skoda and Peugeot both have more headroom than the Nissan. The Qashqai’s legroom is good, but it feels more cramped inside than these rivals.

Nissan Qashqai boot space

The Nissan has a variable amount of boot space depending on which model you choose. The largest possible boot in the Qashqai is 504 litres with the seats up and 1,447 litres with the rear seats folded down.

If you move up to an N-Connecta model, these figures drop to 479 litres and 1,422 litres respectively, or if you choose Tekna then the seats-up figure drops to 475 litres. The least practical model is the Tekna+ version, which has only 436 litres with the seats up and 1,379 litres with the seats down.

All of these figures are poor next to rivals such as the Peugeot 3008, which has 520 litres to 1,580 litres of boot space in all versions.

Nissan Qashqai towing capacity

The Nissan Qashqai can tow a trailer of up to 1,040kg in entry-level form - which is a low figure for a car of this type - but if you choose a higher-spec version it can pull up to 1,800kg. That is pretty good for a family car, and should be enough for a broad range of caravans.

You’ll need the most expensive 158hp automatic version of the petrol Qashqai to be able to tow this amount, though. The manual 158hp model can tow up to 1,650kg, and the four-wheel-drive model with this engine and an automatic gearbox can pull up to 1,800kg as well.

Nissan Qashqai weight

Weight is really important because a lighter car should be more efficient, better to drive, more comfortable and have better performance. The Nissan Qashqai is below average for its type in weight terms, although the upcoming plug-in hybrid model is likely be quite heavy, as it includes a battery pack and electric motor alongside an ordinary petrol engine.

The entry-level petrol weighs around 1,331-1,435kg depending on trim level, which is relatively light. This is the kerb weight figure, which includes fluids. The heaviest version is the four-wheel-drive model for now, which is significantly heavier than its two-wheel-drive counterpart and will be much less efficient as a result.
