Is there such a thing as luxury on a budget? Well, yes there is actually. Being restricted to a certain monthly outlay for your motor doesn’t mean you have to forego some of the more desirable equipment that comes with cars these days.

Choose wisely and go for the best specification and you can make your budget go that little bit further. Even truly coveted premium badges are within reach for relatively affordable sums if you're open to nearly new and used models.

We’ve done the research for you to pick out some genuinely appealing models at eight common budgets for monthly finance deals - £150 per month, £200 per month, £250 per month, £300 per month, £400 per month, £500 per month, £600 per month and £800 per month.

There’s a mix of hatchbacks, saloons and SUVs, plus some of the more prestigious brands on the market - and they’re all available here on BuyaCar. Read on for our advice on how to secure a spot of luxury at a monthly price you can manage.

1. Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav

Luxury car for £150 per month

Used deals from £8,800
Monthly finance from £211*

Yes, we know what you’re thinking. If you were playing a word association game, ‘luxury’ is not the first word that springs to mind with the Astra. But bear with us. This Vauxhall is actually a very competent compact family car that looks good and is decent to drive and in Elite Nav form, it feels suitably posh, too. At this price point, four-year-old models with reasonably low mileages are well with reach.

What that means is that you get a long list of desirable equipment including a heated leather steering wheel, heated part leather front seats, automatic headlights and wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control and, as the name suggests, an in-built sat-nav system. There’s also a choice of petrol or diesel power. For £150 per month, that sounds like a lot of luxury to us.

2. Mercedes A-Class Sport

Luxury car for £200 per month

Used deals from £10,500
Monthly finance from £0*

If luxury to you equates to a prestige badge, you’ll be pleased to know that a couple of hundred quid per month is all it takes to get a Mercedes on your driveway. The model in question is the A-Class, a compact hatch that has sold in exceptional numbers. And for this monthly budget, you can expect to bag a 2015 or 2016 model with reasonable mileage in Sport trim.

This comes with an array of kit that includes cruise control, a rear-view camera, an eight-inch touchscreen media system with sat-nav, smartphone integration, automatic wipers and climate control. Diesel models are more plentiful than petrols, and offer a better blend of performance and fuel economy, although they’re a little noisy, so it may still be worth finding a good petrol version.

3. Ford Fiesta Vignale

Luxury car for £250 per month

Used deals from £13,588
Monthly finance from £0*

The Fiesta? A luxury car? Yes indeed, and it’s all down to the Vignale badging. Vignale-branded Fords are the poshest models the company offers, which means an abundance of sumptuous equipment. And that is allied to the enjoyable, exciting drive that Ford has perfected in its supermini big-seller. It may be small, but the Fiesta is very satisfying to drive.

Low-mileage one-year-old models can be in your sights here, which means that the majority of the manufacturer warranty will still be available, too. You’ll be spoiled by the eight-inch touchscreen media system, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, Ford’s own SYNC3 sat-nav system, heated leather front seats, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic roof. The effect is a car that feels much more expensive than it actually is.

4. Jaguar XE Portfolio

Luxury car for £300 per month

Used deals from £14,790
Monthly finance from £0*

Up your monthly outlay by another £50, and Jaguar’s sleekly designed BMW 3 Series rival, the XE, comes into play. For £300 per month you can look forward to getting your hands on a three-year-old Portfolio model with around 20,000 miles on the clock, with either a 2.0-litre petrol or diesel engine.

The allure of the Jag badge will be enough for many, and the bonus is the XE is such a fun car to drive. Portfolio is the trim level to go for if luxury is your priority - it comes with all the equipment you could feasibly want including an eight-inch touchscreen media system, sat-nav, cruise control and what it terms ‘Perforated Windsor’ leather seats, which are wonderful to look at and sit in.

5. Volvo XC40 Inscription Pro

Luxury car for £400 per month

Used deals from £22,000
Monthly finance from £0*

The XC40 has quickly carved out a reputation as one of the most desirable SUVs around, and if your budget stretches to £400 per month, that puts you in range of the extremely desirable Inscription Pro models. What you’ll get for your cash is one of the coolest cars on the road, both inside and out, with the minimalist design of the cabin a particular highlight.

Inscription Pro brings cruise control, digital instruments, Volvo’s signature nine-inch portrait oriented touchscreen media system, sat-nav, a leather steering wheel, exceptionally comfortable leather seats, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate and LED front foglights - quite a haul. Under the bonnet, the D3 diesel engine has all the power you’ll need and delivers fuel economy in the region of 50mpg, meaning that visits to fill up shouldn't be too frequent.

6. Audi A6 Black Edition

Luxury car for £500 per month

Used deals from £33,455
Monthly finance from £0*

The A6 is Audi’s rival to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class and makes a compelling case for itself if you have £500 per month to spend; nearly new models are available with just a couple of thousand miles on the clock for this. Although the Black Edition name suggests this version is black, that’s not actually the case - it’s available in other colours and the Black Edition name actually refers to a top-spec trim level.

Among the highlights are a dual-screen media system, front sport seats finished in leather and a perforated leather steering wheel, but it’s the absolutely impeccable build quality that really marks the car out; the finish is absolutely flawless. Tinted rear windows and some exterior styling details finished in black explain the name, and although the trim is available with every engine, the 2.0-litre diesel is a great all-round choice.

7. BMW X5 M Sport

Luxury car for £600 per month

Used deals from £48,984
Monthly finance from £0*

The X5 has recently been usurped as BMW’s biggest SUV by the gargantuan X7, but the latter’s polarising looks should ensure the smaller model remains a popular choice with those after a luxurious SUV that is good to drive.

A new X5 was launched in 2018 that had improved comfort as one of its main priorities and it certainly delivered: acoustic glass reduced noise in the cabin, the suspension was developed to create a more comfortable ride, and four-zone climate control and a panoramic roof enhanced the experience for those inside.

Most of the X5s available for around £600 per month will be low-mileage 2019 3.0-litre 30d models with M Sport trim, which means some racy design touches including a sports steering wheel and metal pedals complementing the impressively crafted cabin. As far as sumptuous SUVs that are enjoyable to drive go, there are few better.

8. Range Rover

Luxury car for £800 per month

Used deals from £27,490
Monthly finance from £1,206*

At this monthly price point the world is your oyster, but it’s difficult to look past the mighty Range Rover, the model that rewrote the rule book when it came to luxury SUV motoring when it was first launched 50 years ago.

The current version is a fantastic mix of ultra-refined luxury cruising ability blended with excellent off-road capability, and all delivered in unmatched opulence. In truth, any model will provide plenty of appeal, but if you really want to be pampered, Autobiography is the go-to trim.

Among its attractions are what’s known as semi-aniline leather (which uses soluble dyes to give a softer finish), digital TV, electrically adjustable winged headrests that ‘wrap’ around occupants’ necks, four-zone climate control and a rear seat entertainment system that features 10.2 inch screens on the back of the front seats. Three or four-year old models with a V8 diesel are feasible with this budget.
