Buying a brand new car has two very immediate downsides. Firstly, new cars are very expensive compared to used cars, and secondly, new cars lose a huge proportion of their value within seconds of turning the ignition key (or pressing the engine start button) for the first time. But who can resist the allure of driving a pristine new car? If only there was a way to get all of that new car excitement without suffering the substantial expense.

Well, we might have an answer. Roll out the red carpet for pre-registered car deals. For all intents and purposes, a pre-registered car is a brand new car. It's never been owned by anyone - other than the dealer that has 'bought' the car from itself - and it will only have driven a handful of miles in its short life. Choosing a pre-registered car can be a great way to save thousands of pounds on the new car you really want.

Here, we've picked out some of the best pre-reg deals on small cars currently available on BuyaCar, so if you're in the market for the latest compact models, this is a good place to start. Whether you're looking to pay cash, or make the most of low monthly finance payments, these four choices could be perfect for you.

We have hundreds of pre-registered cars available on BuyaCar, so if you're looking for something a little bigger, be sure to check out our deals on pre-registered SUVs for more great savings.

Pre-registered Hyundai i10 deals

Hyundai i10 1.0 MPi 67 Premium list price ££14,960
BuyaCar price Limited stock

The Hyundai i10 is one of the most sensible small cars you can buy, and in this latest guise it looks good and drives well, too. For a long time, the Hyundai name was overlooked by many drivers in the UK who preferred to stick to what they knew - the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. But it's becoming more and more difficult to ignore this excellent little car.

For a start, the i10 is one of the most spacious and comfortable cars of its size. Where it competes directly against the likes of the Peugeot 108, Volkswagen Up and Toyota Aygo, there is really no competition when it comes to things like practicality and boot space. The 252 litres on offer in the back of the Hyundai is more than all of its rivals, and if you fold down the rear seats - where capacity grows to 1,050 litres - its supremacy is even more pronounced.

It's not just your luggage that has plenty of space either. There's plenty of cabin space for passengers, too. The i10's shape lends itself well to providing comfort for four adults or a family of five with three children in the back, with plenty of head and legroom on offer. If you want a small city car that's usable as a family car, the Hyundai i10 is probably your best bet.

Pre-registered Citroen C1 deals

Citroen C1 10 VTi 72 Shine list price £13,435
BuyaCar price from £10,990
Monthly finance from £187*

If you're looking for a small and affordable car that's easy to drive and simple to maintain, there are few other cars on the market that tick each of these boxes simultaneously. The Citroen C1 is perfectly suited to drivers who need a cheap mode of transport for nipping to the shops, or covering a short drive to work.

Other alternatives you might consider are the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo. Both are a similar price on BuyaCar, and share a number of mechanical parts - including engines - with the C1. Prices for he smallest Citroen have risen by comparison to the likes of the Volkswagen Up, but the amount of tech on offer in C1 Shine models are a justification of that cost.

There's a seven-inch touchscreen media system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, air-conditioning, a reversing camera, tinted rear windows and a height-adjustable driver's seat. The C1 is less of a family car than the likes of the Hyundai i10, but it will more than likely keep you entertained and comfortable if you rarely need space for passengers.

Pre-registered Nissan Micra deals

Nissan Micra 1.0 IG-T 92 Acenta list price £16,310
BuyaCar price Limited stock

The Nissan Micra has been around for a long time, and while it was once considered a bit of a frump, this latest version of Nissan's smallest model has developed a more youthful identity with sharper styling and the availability of a striking orange paint job.

Despite that, the Micra is still a sensible, affordable and reliable choice for drivers looking for good value from their motoring. You can expect to see fuel economy figures of around 50mpg from the 92hp 1.0-litre petrol engine, which should help to keep fuel costs down if you're keen on efficiency.

Acenta trim models are also pretty well equipped, with a pair of screens on the dashboard, a seven-inch touchscreen media display in the centre, and a five-inch instrument display behind the steering wheel. The media system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support along with digital radio, while other features include hill start assist, cruise control and air-conditioning.

Pre-registered Seat Ibiza deals

Seat Ibiza 1.0 TSI 95 FR list price £19,285
BuyaCar price Limited stock

The Seat Ibiza has been a popular choice among young drivers. Maybe it's the connection to the land of sun and partying that gets people excited, or perhaps it's just the fact that this is an enjoyable car to drive, especially in the sporty FR form.

From the outside, the striking bodywork, rear spoiler and stylised exhaust pipes make the Ibiza look like a bit of a sports car. From the inside, the sports suspension and FR branded steering wheel make the Ibiza feel like something of a sports car. It's not particularly fast in the grand scheme of things - 0-62mph still takes 10.9 seconds with the 95hp 1.0-litre petrol engine - but the firmer ride and lively handling round corners make it exciting to drive.

Along with that sporty edge, the Ibiza is still a very efficient, comfortable and practical car. It's just as much at home cruising along the motorway with a boot full of luggage as it is nipping in and out of junctions around town. It's still a relatively cheap car, too, and perfect for younger drivers looking for their first taste of driving thrills.
