Buying a brand new car has two very immediate downsides. Firstly, new cars are very expensive compared to used cars, and secondly, new cars lose a huge proportion of their value within seconds of turning the ignition key (or pressing the engine start button) for the first time. But who can resist the allure of driving a pristine new car? If only there was a way to get all of that new car excitement without suffering the substantial expense.

Well, we might have an answer. Roll out the red carpet for pre-registered car deals. For all intents and purposes, a pre-registered car is a brand new car. It's never been owned by anyone - other than the dealer that has 'bought' the car from itself - and it will only have driven a handful of miles in its short life. Choosing a pre-registered car can be a great way to save thousands of pounds on the new car you really want.

Here, we've picked out some of the best pre-reg deals on small cars currently available on BuyaCar, so if you're in the market for the latest compact models, this is a good place to start. Whether you're looking to pay cash, or make the most of low monthly finance payments, these four choices could be perfect for you.

We have hundreds of pre-registered cars available on BuyaCar, so if you're looking for something a little bigger, be sure to check out our deals on pre-registered SUVs for more great savings.

Pre-registered Fiat 500C deals

Fiat 500C 1.0 MHEV Dolcevita list price £18,385
BuyaCar price Limited stock

While there is a new electric version of this small Fiat in both hatchback 500 and convertible 500C forms, it fetches a hefty price tag of over £23,000, with range-topping models topping out at beyond £30,000. The Italian carmaker continues sales of its petrol-powered counterpart, and by buying pre-registered you could potentially save thousands.

The 500C features a fabric roof that slides open electrically, while the car's roof pillars stay in place. Because you can't buy the convertible version in entry-level Pop trim, the standard equipment on Dolcevita models combined with pre-registered savings represents excellent value for money. These get rear parking sensors, a seven-inch touchscreen media system, air-conditioning and cruise control.

The petrol-powered Fiat 500 is only available with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 70hp. It's not particularly quick, but because it uses mild hybrid technology, drivers should be pleased with some decent mpg figures.

Pre-registered Citroen C1 deals

Citroen C1 10 VTi 72 Shine list price £13,435
BuyaCar price Limited stock

If you're looking for a small and affordable car that's easy to drive and simple to maintain, there are few other cars on the market that tick each of these boxes simultaneously. The Citroen C1 is perfectly suited to drivers who need a cheap mode of transport for nipping to the shops, or covering a short drive to work.

Other alternatives you might consider are the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo. Both are a similar price on BuyaCar, and share a number of mechanical parts - including engines - with the C1. Prices for he smallest Citroen have risen by comparison to the likes of the Volkswagen Up, but the amount of tech on offer in C1 Shine models are a justification of that cost.

There's a seven-inch touchscreen media system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, air-conditioning, a reversing camera, tinted rear windows and a height-adjustable driver's seat. The C1 is less of a family car than the likes of the Hyundai i10, but it will more than likely keep you entertained and comfortable if you rarely need space for passengers.

Pre-registered Peugeot 208 deals

Peugeot 208 1.2 PureTech 100 Allure Premium list price £1621,045
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Because Peugeot launched this version of its 208 supermini in 2020, buying a pre-registered model will mean it will look fresh for years to come because manufacturers typically replace older models every seven years or so.

Allure Premium is one above entry-level and marks the sweet spot for this car. These versions get a reversing camera, push button start, automatic lights and wipers, and bright LED headlights.

The 100hp or 130hp version of the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine feels quick but should prove cheap to run. There's a diesel version for long-distance drivers, capable of a claimed 73mpg, and an electric version great for those who spend most of their time in and around the city.

Pre-registered Vauxhall Corsa deals

Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 75 SE list price £17,380
BuyaCar price Limited stock

The latest Corsa is built alongside the Peugeot 208 above, which means both get the same choice of 1.2-litre petrol engines and even an electric version.

Entry-level SE trim comes with traffic sign recognition, alloy wheels, a seven-inch touchscreen media system and LED headlights. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 75hp, and while Vauxhall's official figures suggest 54mpg should be possible, you will have to work the engine hard to pick up much speed, reducing efficiency.
