BuyaCar deals of the week

Want the absolute best value car for your money? Check out our pre-registered deals of the week that offer plenty of bang for your buck

Buying a brand new car has to be the most expensive way to change your wheels. If you don't fancy going for a used car, however, there is another, far better value way to get that new car smell and feel-good factor: pre-registered cars and new cars in stock.

Pre-registered cars, to all intents and purposes, are brand new, with less than 100 miles on the clock and being less than a year old. However, as they've been registered by a dealer - normally so the dealer can hit sales targets by selling the car to themselves - you are the second owner rather than the first.

In exchange for not being the first owner - and frankly, no one is going to know you're not, as pre-registered cars often still have the latest number plates - these effectively new cars come with the type of price you'd expect on a used car. So if you want a new car but like the idea of saving thousands, this could be the way to do it.

Alternatively, if you're on a tighter budget, or want even more car for your money, used cars can make even more sense - you can also check out some of our best deals on 2020 cars. Yes, the car may not look like it's rolled straight out of the factory, but in exchange you can typically save yourself many thousands more - even compared with a pre-reg car. You can also choose to buy your next car at a specific time of year to make the most of seasonal changes in car prices.

Since modern cars are so well engineered, safe and long-lasting, even choosing a five-year-old car that has covered 50,000 miles should offer you many years of problem-free motoring. Below we've rounded up our selection of the best pre-reg and used deals on offer right now.

Keep reading to find the best deals on cars in stock that are available to order now for delivery to your door. Not only do you get to avoid new car dealer pricing but you also don't have to worry about the safety implications of travelling around the country going to showrooms following the coronavirus outbreak.

Vauxhall Astra deals

Vauxhall Astra 1.4i 16V Design201459,413£4,799

If you're looking for a cheap, dependable and incredibly sensible hatchback, the Vauxhall Astra is always an option - especially when it's available for less than £5,000. This is the previous-generation model on sale from 2009-2015, but this ever-popular family car is built to last, with reliable engines and a decent quality interior that still holds up well in 2021.

It's the interior that is the most impressive feature of the Astra. It lacks the kind of fancy technology available on the very latest models, but it's refined, comfortable and well set up for cruising if you're intending to cover a few miles with it. The equipment list includes air-conditioning and cruise control as standard.

The range of engines available with the Astra covers plenty of bases. The 1.4-litre petrol models lack power, but make up for it with superior fuel economy compared to faster 1.6-litre alternatives. Turbocharged versions of both are available with more power and reasonable economy, but their impact on general day-to-day driving is minimal for more relaxed drivers. If you're looking for the best in terms of economy, a selection of diesel engines all manage upwards of 60mpg, but the 1.7-litre CDTi in particular is a touch noisy.

Nissan Qashqai deals

Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi 115 N-Connecta201919,400£17,800

High-riding SUVs often come with high prices, but that isn't a problem if you're open to driving a used model. The Nissan Qashqai has always been relatively affordable, and now a new model is on the way to help make second-hand versions potentially even better value.

The Qashqai has proven to be an extremely popular car for families thanks to its competitive pricing, but it does also deliver on a number of key points which mean it is often considered a benchmark for its rivals. There's plenty of space inside for a family, though fitting three in the rear seats might be a bit of a squeeze and you get a pair of Isofix points in the back for easily and safely mounting child seats. The 430-litre boot is not massive, but provides plenty of space for a pushchair or a substantial grocery shop.

In terms of equipment inside, the Qashqai is best experienced in the more high-end N-Connecta trim, because this features a seven-inch touchscreen media system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, sat-nav, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors - everything you need to keep the family entertained while making driving as stress-free as possible.

Mercedes C-Class deals

Mercedes C220d AMG Line Auto201760,964£18,358

If you love the idea of parking a Mercedes on the drive but don't want to drain your bank account for one, the C-Class is a relatively affordable way to do it - especially as used models are available at a fraction of their original price.

The C-Class has a real feel-good factor about it, with its upmarket looks, luxurious cabin and slick in-car tech, including a standard-fit 10.3-inch touchscreen media system. AMG Line models include an additional 12.3-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, which makes them feel even more high-tech. While the C-Class drives nicely, it prioritises comfort over sportiness, with heated front seats included as standard on all C-Class models, along with cruise control, climate control and a reversing camera

In terms of engines, the C-Class is most popular in diesel form thanks to far superior fuel economy compared to petrol versions. The C220d is arguably the pick of the bunch with decent claimed fuel economy of around 55mpg along with a nippy 0-62mph time of just 6.9 seconds, which is quick enough for most drivers.

Fiat 500 deals

Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge Dualogic20195,400£12,295

Opting for a Fiat 500 is a decision you make with your heart. Yes, this car is affordable and easy to drive, but just look at it; chances are that you either love or hate the styling, thanks to the 500's curvy shape and retro style.

The Fiat 500 looks compact and puppy-like, and it's every bit as playful when you take it out on the road. Its lightweight body makes it easy to fling around town, and the small, turbocharged 0.9-litre petrol engine option delivers a satisfying punch at low speeds, making it a good choice for those who like to whizz around town. While the 1.2-litre version is less excitable and less economical, it's also generally much cheaper, making it a great option if you're on a budget, with much lower monthly finance costs.

Shopping for Lounge models is a safe bet. They're packed with modern technology including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity through the media system, while rear parking sensors assist with manoeuvring in tight city centres. The list of kit also includes air-conditioning, cruise control, heated door mirrors and a height adjustable driver's seat.
