Cars with Bose speakers

Fed up with shoddy speakers in your current car? We've rounded up the best affordable cars that are available with Bose speakers

Decades ago, speakers in cars offered pretty poor sound quality, with only the most expensive models featuring decent sound systems or at least the option of a more powerful set of speakers. In the 2020s, however, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to getting a car with better speakers - whether you're looking for a small car or an upmarket SUV.

Bose is one of the most common brands available when it comes to uprated sound systems in cars, giving you better quality than the standard systems. This can be a real bonus, regardless of whether you plan to listen to dubstep or Debussy. What’s more, there is a wide range of car types that come with sound systems from the American brand. This means there should be something to suit you, including small cars, practical family hatchbacks, large SUVs, sports cars and even silent electric cars that enable you to hear your music in all its glory.

Do bear in mind, though, that not all Bose systems are equal. When comparing the different setups it's useful to consider the speakers' wattage - sometimes shortened to watts or even 'W'. The higher the watts figure, the greater the power output of the speakers and the louder they can go. While you may not want to have the speakers blasting all the time, the theory is that a higher wattage figure means richer sound, whatever the volume, and Bose has built a reputation on making high quality audio equipment.

It is also important to consider how many speakers a system has. To a certain extent, it is a case of the more the merrier and if you have speakers dotted around the car, music is likely to sound more immersive, with a greater sense of surround sound.

When comparing the number of speakers and a sound system's wattage, it is important to remember they are relative. Having an 800W 12-speaker setup in a two-seat city car is likely to be overkill, while having the same speakers in a supersize seven-seater SUV could be just right.

Below are eight cars that are widely available in the UK, with used prices starting from well below £10,000 and around £150* per month on PCP finance. While some come as standard with a Bose system, or are in fact a standalone Bose model - such as a Renault Clio RS Line Bose Edition - this is not the case with all of them. So be sure to double-check Bose speakers are fitted to any specific model you are considering before signing on the dotted line, if this is important to you.

Cars with Bose speakers

1. Renault Clio

Our pick Renault Clio S Edition
Used deals from £14,979
Monthly finance from £231*

Renault launched the latest version of its popular Clio in 2019. It is by far the best Clio yet as it is pleasant to drive, is very stylish and comes as standard with a decent amount of equipment. As a small, economical and affordable car, the Clio is right up there with the Ford Fiesta as one of the most appealing all-round options.

For audiophiles, Renault offers something of a cherry on top - a Bose sound system - and there are quite a few models available with these uprated speakers. Renault lets motorists order an optional Bose system with new S Edition, RS Line and E Tech Launch Edition trims. Back in 2019, though, lower-spec Iconic trim could also benefit from the Bose set up, plus, there was a dedicated RS Line Bose Edition.

2. Mazda 3

Our pick Mazda 3 GT Sport Skyactiv X
Used deals from £23,028
Monthly finance from £313*

The Mazda 3 competes against cars such as the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. The current version, launched in 2019, is one of the most striking family-sized hatchbacks that has gone on sale in the last decade. Some models also feature Mazda’s clever 'Skyaxtiv-X' petrol-engine technology which is claimed to boost economy without reducing performance.

It is only higher-spec Mazda 3s that get Bose speakers - specifically GT Sport and GT Sport Tech models. The system features no fewer than 12 speakers, which is two more than the optional Burmester audio setup in the Mercedes A-Class. The Mazda 3 is fantastic to drive, well-built and regardless of how many speakers are fitted, it is well-equipped even in entry-level SE-L trim.

3. Nissan Leaf

Our pick Nissan Leaf e+ Tekna
Used deals from £27,995
Monthly finance from £411*

Yes, electric cars can be very quiet, but go for one with a Bose sound system and they can also be quite loud. High-spec Tekna models currently come with seven Bose speakers as standard. The Leaf is good to drive, spacious enough for a family to use as its sole car and includes equipment such as a touchscreen media system across the range.

There are two battery and electric motor combinations available, with the more expensive ‘e+’ version claiming a maximum range of 239 miles per charge - that's 71 miles more than the standard model. Nissan's ‘e-Pedal’ feature allows you to mostly drive the car using just one pedal, with the car slowing quickly as soon as you lift off the throttle, adding charge back to the battery in the process.

If the newer 2018-onwards Leaf is out of budget, there are plenty of previous-generation models available - including those with Bose sound systems - for less, although they do have a shorter maximum range.

4. Audi A6

Our pick Audi A6 Black Edition
Used deals from £18,600
Monthly finance from £343*

The previous-generation 2011-2018 Audi A6 went up against cars such as the Mercedes E-Class, fighting to grab the attention of those looking for an upmarket saloon or estate. There was a mind-boggling array of trims but those looking to enjoy a Bose sound system will need to opt for a Black Edition model. Alongside the audio tech, Black Edition brought a number of sporty aesthetic features, such as larger alloy wheels.

The A6's Bose sound system uses 14 speakers and is rated to 600W - which are both plenty and just a smidge behind the optional 17-speaker 825W system available in the Jaguar XF. Aside from the speakers, the A6's interior is a very nice place to be and the diesel engines are punchy but economical - petrol versions are also available.

5. Mazda CX-30

Our pick Mazda CX-30 GT Sport
Used deals from £24,300
Monthly finance from £321*

You might be surprised to find just how plush the Mazda CX-30 is. Its interior and build quality are good enough to rival upmarket alternatives such as the Mercedes GLA and Audi Q2. It is also great to drive and received the highest score the crash safety experts at Euro NCAP have ever awarded for adult occupant protection.

Much like the Mazda 3 mentioned above, CX-30 models with a Bose sound system are limited to higher-spec GT Sport and GT Sport Tech trims and feature 12 speakers. The only engines are petrol-powered, but there are manual and automatic gearboxes. The higher-powered engines - which produce around 180hp - are also available with two- or four-wheel-drive.

6. Renault Kadjar

Renault Kadjar front

Our pick Renault Kadjar Dynamique S Nav
Used deals from £11,455
Monthly finance from £220*

If you're looking for a practical and easy-to-drive five-seat SUV, you should be well-served by the Renault Kadjar. The Kadjar is based on the popular Nissan Qashqai and as a result, is very similar to drive - it's comfortable and relaxing. Happily, the Renault can be better value as a used car, as it is less popular in the UK. A Kadjar should also be affordable to run, thanks to a range of frugal petrol and diesel engines. Range-topping models are also available with four-wheel-drive.

The Kadjar was launched in 2015 and then updated in 2019. Part of the revisions included improvements to the engine range, styling tweaks and standard specification. Both pre- and post- 2019 models are available with Bose speakers; 2019-onwards GT Line versions include the uprated speakers as standard, while older Signature Nav and Dynamique S Nav were available with these as an upgrade.

7. Nissan Juke

Our pick Nissan Juke Bose Personal Edition
Used deals from £12,140
Monthly finance from £208*

There is no shortage of Nissan Jukes with Bose speakers, as is has been on sale for more than 10 years and has been offered with a Bose system for much of that. Furthermore, when the second-generation Juke was launched in 2019 the option of Bose speakers remained. If you're considering the pre-2019 version, look out for a Bose Personal Edition model. With the current version, look for Tekna and Tekna+ specifications to get Bose speakers.

The Juke isn't as sharp to drive as shorter cars, such as the Ford Fiesta, but it is comfy and easy to drive. Both generations of Juke look striking which is good for those who want to be seen as well as heard. While diesel engines are available on older models, Nissan now only offers petrol engines. The overwhelming majority of Jukes are two-wheel-drive, rather than four-wheel-drive, and these are our recommended option.

8. Mazda MX-5

Our pick Mazda MX-5 Sport Nav
Used deals from £14,491
Monthly finance from £238*

The best-selling sports car of all time is the Mazda MX-5. Its success isn’t a fluke, though, as the two-seater convertible is massively fun to drive and affordable. It isn’t overwhelmingly powerful, though its range of petrol engines (either 1.5- or 2.0-litre) are great fun to work hard, making this a great car for keen drivers.

Finding an MX-5 with Bose speakers is relatively straightforward, as Sport Nav models are available with the uprated sound system and this option is fairly common. There are also a number of special editions which can come with the Bose system in addition to other attractive features such as distinctive alloy wheels and unique  colour combinations.

Mazda updated its MX-5 in 2018 and increased the power of the 2.0-litre version to 184hp. If you can afford it, this is the engine to go for, as it offers plenty of performance.
